Well, their bowl game is on Friday. The press conferences could simply be game/media related and pre-scheduled. Not that I see confirmation of them anywhere though..... By the way islstl.. Petrino had I believe the #18 ranked defense in the nation right now. Imagine how well his defense could be with SEC level players.
If Petrino is hired, what are the chances he brings his current defensive coordinator? Anybody familiar with Louisville and the scheme they run? His resume looks pretty good, but he was the guy coaching Illinois' D when Ro and the boys lit them up in the Sugar Bowl. That kind of worries me a little, but I'm not sure anyone could have done much to slow down the offense back then. Other than that, his resume looks pretty solid. Before that he was at Oklahoma State. He's only been a UL one year, so I wonder how loyal Petrino is to him. If Petrino is the man, I hope he can keep Muschamp. If not, this might be our guy on defense. http://uoflsports.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/cassity_mike01.html
I was listening to Houston sports radio yesterday on the way home, and the hosts were preparing to have a UT insider on in an upcoming segment. The guys began talking about Vincent Young, how he's matured, makes plays with his feet, etc. Talk soon turned to how Vince has not progressed much as a pure passer. I checked the current passer efficiency rankings and Vince Young is now #47 in the country, making him the lowest-rated QB of any of the current top ten teams, as well as lower than his Rose Bowl opponent, Chad Henne of Michigan. (Link: http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/Internet/national%20rankings/IA_playerpasseff.html Anyway, one host went so far as to say he watched Vince play at Madison (here in Houston) and he thought Vince had *regressed* as a passer since high school (!) Hell, even Romell Anthony must know that the path to NFL stardom for his brother doesn't run through Austin! Not only would Ryan sit the next two seasons and not get as many in-game reps as he could elsewhere, but he'd have subpar QB coaching to overcome as well. That commit to Texas *has* to be soft as hell, IMO.
Those stats are a little misleading. No excuses for the Georgia game, but OSU & Ole Miss were both shut down in the second half of those games and 17 of Troy's points came on drives of 10 yards or less. Kind of off the subject a lttle, but there's more to the story than just the numbers posted.
Not fair at all, I'll admit, but when I hear "Illinois", "defense" and "LSU coach" in the same sentence, I think of Lou Tepper. Eww...
Before anyone gets to excited, I am sure Skip is just interviewing people. Petrino appears is just the first one. Its great a coach like Petrino would listen to LSU shows we have a pretty solid program. However I hope Skip interviews him and others then makes a decision. I to would not be to upset if Petrino came here, BUT with the state of the program lets see what other rocks Skip can turn over.
Yeah.. 3rd in total defense.. 11th (tied) in scoring defense... yeah.. thats not too stellar... Considering half the scores they gave up were because the other team had the short field because the offense couldnt do sh*t, i think the defense did pretty well.
Petrino Last tuesday I was on this site for the first time and mentioned that Petrino would be the coach. I was blasted for mentioning this because I had only one post. Look who appears to be the top candidate!
