That is exactly correct, his baseball career was quickly coming to an end and he rolled the dice on football. He had the physical skills to be a quality QB but definitely had a T.O. me me me attitude. He was all SEC because SEC QB's that year sucked and he sucked the least.

Booty was a royal jackhole when he was at LSU and anybody that came in contact with him knew it.

He was also not a very good quarterback. He just happened to play at a time when fans were accustomed to Jamie Howard and other 1/2 star scrubs at QB. Imagine a sophomore high school basketball player joining a women's team in the NCAA tournament. Sure, he would score 60 points a game, and terrify the local equestrians, but that doesn't mean he's any good. Same for Booty.

It's just so strange reading these thoughts on Booty's character. Younger brother JD couldn't be more opposite. I've met and talked to him on several occasions and he is the epitomy of class, politeness, and leadership. Kids love talking to him and he's great with all the fans. Strange how folks from the same family can turn out so differently.

Your right. I met JD Booty a few times and he seems pretty cool. Doesnt seem like a prick in his interviews either. Abram seemed to be a little more soft spoken than both. Maybe its because he(Josh) was the big brother.
Dont forget there is one more still in high school at Calvary Christian.

Yea, his other brother Abram, who played WR at LSU for a while, was a nice guy too. Go figure, huh?

Still didn't stop MANY USC fans from calling for his head early in the season though. :hihi:

No it certainly didn't. He was maligned much of last year for his footwork, locking in on receivers, and tipped passes (utla and osu were painfully duplicate). That's what makes him even more amazing is that he took all the criticism in stride. And don't kid yourself that it stopped early in the season. After the utla debacle, many were still calling for Sanchez to replace Booty for the Rose Bowl. Thank goodness Sarkiffian had confidence in him.

He thrives in knowing others have confidence in him and the Rose Bowl was a huge booster in terms of performance. I can't wait to see what he does with a brand new receiving crew. I suspect David Ausberry will become a familiar name.

That situation exists at a lot of universities who have the luxury of two capable qb's on the roster. We had the same situatin at LSU with JR and MF. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we'll be hearing it between MF and RP. :thumb:

Wait until Mustain gets there, and there's three. :hihi:

Assuming Sanchez stays- with his back and all.

Did you know him or meet him or is this second hand information?

I disagree with your opinion bout his ability and the reason he appeared to be a good quarterback.
I can't think of a player who entered LSU at worse time to enhance his career.
Name one quarterback that Hallman or Dinardo developed.
Booty was from a Class A program in a system that did not prepare him for college. He took all his snaps in HS from the shotgun formation. He didn't have the technique or the footwork to play under center. Dumbass Dianrdo stuck the guy into a situation he didn't deserve.
He was out of football for several years so he wasn't mentally ready.
The fans, due to media hype, expected him to be John Elway as soon as he walked on the field.
The team probably resented him because Nall and Davey were established team mates.
His OL was one of the worst in recent years. Dinardo had worked them into exhaustion and many were pretending to be injured just to escape the torture. In all my years of watching football I have never seen a quarterback take more of a beating than J Booty. To his credit when they knocked him down he always got up and ran the next play.
We had no WRs. Remember Dinardo was using Nall and some other walkon QB for depth. A Booty was injured and Foster was about the only other WR with ability. Reed was sitting the bench as a backup tailback.
McConnell a poor WR Coach had been promoted by Dinardo to OC.

The biggest mistake Josh Booty made was attending LSU and playing for Dinardo. If he had gone to a University immediately out of HS with an established passing offense, with good coaching, and redshirted his first year in order to learn quarterback fundamentals. he may have attained his goal.
The scenario he entered into was doomed from the beginning.

Both actually. I was around him a few times at LSU events and out at night, as well as getting 2nd hand info.

You make some good points, and it certainly wasn't a good team around him. That was my point on why he appeared to be a decent QB at times though. Part of being a good QB is being a leader, and as you mention, the team didn't buy into him. Expectations were certainly high, but he did himself no favors in that regard either.
