From what I've read, the "kick" (the phenomenon that blew the rig up in the first place) is a possibility with this procedure as well. All we can do is pray that not only the procedure works to contain the oil as planned, but that everyone that is working to ensure that the oil is contained and the problem is fixed stays safe as well.

My dad is one of the many many people trying to fix this mess. His company's boats are our there and so are his company's ROV's. He's been flying to and from Fourchon to Houston and New Orleans and back, but thankfully he hasn't had to go out to the site yet.

    Prayers for all involved.

That is the current plan, but it is neither simple nor efficient. It is fairly routine in shallow water, even then it is a stop gap measure until the relief well is drilled and the hole can be plugged. At 5,000 feet, it's a whole new ballgame with no divers to guide things. There ain't a mile-long hose they can just hook up, either. Another derrick rig will have to lower a long string of heavy pipe down to the dome.

Hot damn, they got the containment dome in place. Superb job against significant odds by all involved.

Well yeah but what they were talking about was using the super tanker sucker method to take the oil that is already floating around the gulf instead of burning and just waiting for it to reach the marsh/beaches

What I dont understand is if this was a possibilty why not be proactive instead of "well we knew it could happen BUT we were hoping it wouldnt"

I mean come on...its no wonder these guys lost the Revolution!

Pretty damn encouraging. Although those dudes basically just gave their trade secrets away. Not that it matters one bit to me. I just want the sh!t cleaned up. Tar balls are already washing up on Dauphin Island.
