Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill I really don't think BP can be that hands-off on a job so expensive and important. All parties were aware that there were pressure test issues on the well by most accounts. Senator Waxman has been quoted that, “Information reviewed by the committee describes an internal debate between Transocean and BP personnel about how to proceed,” Waxman said. “What we do know is that shortly before 10 p.m., just two hours after well operations apparently resumed, gas surged from the well up the riser and the rig exploded in a fireball.” LINK This suggest that BP engineers were aboard or at least in direct contact with Transocean during the entire process. Very true, blame is going to be spread around, but BP as primary operator bears most of the responsibility. I don't know if I can entirely agree with this. BP has better corporate intentions and environmental policies than most oil companies, but also a very prominent record of violations and spills, especially recently. They are far worse than the industry leader, Exxon, which cleaned up its act seriously after Valdez. LINK I agree, BP can't really be accused of post-accident foot-dragging. Its entirely in their interests for this to be resolved.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill They have successfully installed the tube, but there is no news on how much oil and gas is being diverted to the surface. A bit of good news.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill I adamantly DISAGREE with the statement above. All test are reviewed and approved by BP personnel on the rig, and sometimes sent to BP desk engineers for additional review. The BP company reps are conducting the operating program and are the supreme authority. Transocean will only balk if they deem life or Rig property is in harms way. Make no mistake about it, out there BP was running the show. (Actual operating procedure is sent to rig from BP towns people, BP rig personnel executes the procedure and consults with 'the bank' if going off procedure and contengencies.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill translation: If anyone on that rig had the slightest inkling that what they were doing was wrong, they would have stopped. Or in layman's terms, BP didn't tell anyone to do anything they didn't think was safe.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill a very scathing segment on 60 minutes regarding the disaster in the gulf now.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill the latest scathing article is against government inspectors/regulators. further fueling belief that everyone f'ed up on this. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_gulf_oil_spill_inspections
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill i value your posts on this topic particularly, but i disagree here. sure they are doing all they can think of doing but that may not be enough. i still find it strange with all their resources that they seemed to try one thing then another then another while it may take several days between attempts. they sure fought to keep from putting a $500k piece of equipment on the well this happens all the time. 1000s of people involved. over time several get complacent, think they know what they are doing and cut corners. they dont think they are not being safe, that anyone is going to die, but it happens. and it is those peoples faults.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill as much as i despise bp right now, and as much more i think they are to blame than nootch does, i do agree with him they are doing all they can to stop the flow. (if for no other reason than what it is costing them financially and in reputation.) but i think the big problem now is something that they did in the very beginning, starting with the permitting process. they didnt plan for the "what if" of a major spill or problem. their whole plan was "it wont happen". they got caught with their pants down, and "it wont happen" is now biting them in the ass.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Did anyone watch 60 min??? Seems like Halliburton is in the clear! The order of events per the rig worker they interviewed...as best as I can remember off hand. 1)One of the control panels for the blow out preventor starts not working right. 2) A few days before the explosion pieces of the annular (sp) come up through the well...Transoceanic manager says DONT WORRY ABOUT IT (Annular from what they said was a rubber thing that controls the pressure and allows the Blow Out to work properly) 3) BP and Transocenaic reps have a "who has the bigger dick" contest on the rig when it comes to the well. (Trans wants to keep MUD in the well while Halli does their job...BP wants to remove the MUD while Halli is in the process of doing their thing) BP has the bigger BUT dumber dick! MUD is removed thus releasing the pressure which could have been stopped had Trans cared more about safety! Oh the reason for the BP wanting to take out the MUD when they did...IT WOULD BE MORE COST EFFICENT AND FASTER profitwise for them to remove the MUD. Somebody else might have not watched 2 hours of Survivor after 60 minutes and might not have had as much brain lose and can do a better job with the recap!
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill And I do find it kind of funny that the get the well plugged ON THE DAY of the Gulf Aid concert and THEY only way we know that its plugged is because they say so...I mean they are the people in control of the ONLY CAMERA down there right now since they turned away a group of scientist that wanted to lower their own camera down there so they could get a better idea of how much oil has come out!
