Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Red, I see what you are saying. That would assume that where they were cutting was the middleish of the horizontally suspended section of pipe. Based on the small pipe they cut yesterday in relatively the same spot, the left side fell down and away, much like if you were cutting a tree limb close to the tree. You are right. I was wondering if anyone would catch that. I based it off of watching them cut a small pipe yesterday with the same saw. The pipe fell down, not up (relative to the view the cam gave) when they cut it. This view looks the same.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Because nothing ever goes wrong when you are drilling an oil well.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill I have been wondering exactly where proposed sand berms would be constructed. Found this informative detailed graphic:
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Here's an online petition for BP to remove Tony Hayward, the CEO of BP. Charlie Melancon for Senate > Take Action
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill With the immense pressure he's under, firing him is probably doing him a favor. He'd just take his golden parachute and ride off into the sunset.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Online petitions are the most ridiculous internet product ever. Has a single one ever achieved their goal?
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill It's mostly a lot of saber rattling. I don't think success is defined by achieving their goal...in this case by the actual dismissal of Tony Hayward...but by galvanizing public opinion and forcing people to actually confront the overall issue-at least momentarily. The fact that this explosion, fire and subsequent spill happened is not an accident. It was an event that stemmed from greed and arrogance on the part of BP. Executives like Tony Hayward who are at the top where the buck stops were putting a lot of pressure on mid and lower level executives to cut production costs. That's why they were in a hurry to pull out the mud early (to save a day of production costs) That's why they used a BOP that was manufactured in 1995 against the manufacturer's objection;despite the manufacturer outlining the hydraulic and electrical problems to the MMS.(to save time and money required for a new or re manufactured one) It was CAUSED by greed and arrogance and that's why it's more than a civil liability problem...it's sinful. Therefore it's so vital and important that the public keep their eyes and ears attuned to this event and hold BP accountable to the responsibilities that they are so actively trying to wiggle out of. Make no mistake about it...BP is calling the shots and our government is letting them. That's why it's taken more than six weeks for Jindal and Nungesser's plan for the berms to even get governmental approval. BP doesn't want to pay for it and the government doesn't want to step up and immediately fund the project and collect later. (Thank God for the persistence of Jindal and Nungesser). These polls and petitions are valuable because they help keep the issue in the forefront and keep the pressure on our government and BP like Nungesser and Jindal did...even if they don't force the ouster of Hayward. I signed Melancon's petition even though I may not vote for him.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Gulf spill workers complaining of flulike symptoms - Yahoo! News seems lots of people helping cleanup have been getting sick. This reminds me alot of what happened to the people who helped during 9/11. There are people who helped clean up, and who helped to try and rescue people, that are suffering from all types of respiratory problems today. Please anyone that is down there close, or is helping with the clean up, just get a cheap respirator from your local hardware supply store.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill maybe im cynical, but seems more to me like a way to get attention for the melancon for senate campaign. the support hayward seems to be getting from bp people at this point is gagging. http://climateprogress.org/2010/06/01/bp-ceo-tony-hayward-i’d-like-my-life-back/ if there is gonna be any kind of pressure that might be effective, it is gonna be political pressure. pressure to throroughly clean house at mms and scrutinize all permits and who signed off on them. heads need to roll from top, to bottom, there too. i agree with fanatic that hayward is gonna get his golden parachute and never feel the pain. there needs to be political pressure for the govt (whether it is state or federal) tostart looking at criminal charges of some sort, and/or how to name hayward and other bp execs in civil lawsuits to go after them, as well as the company.
