I've been scanning message boards all day (slow day at work, yes) and this is the THIRD "it's (fill in name here)'s job to lose" thread I've seen today (Petrino, Nutt, Miles). This rumor and fifty cents will buy you a Coke. Now, I believe they may talk to Houston. I'm in the minority here, but I think he's a good coach. Always thought he did well with limited talent and resources and, heck, he sure does win a lot at home. Definitely a fall-back candidate, though.
Listen Live To Drivetime Sports in Arkansas Click Here A lot of Houston Nutt/LSU talk going on in Arkansas.
no one wants to hear wishful pigs hoping and citing rumors their coach is headed to LSU. laughable. an interview at best. No contact more likely.
i really don't know what is worst tuberville or nutt. even though i'm an alum i would have to start pulling for another team besides lsu, i'm serious about this.
Houston Nutt It is being reported on the NBC affiliate out of Fayettville that LSU had asked for and received permission to talk to Houston. That was last night and today actually had an interview with him today. I believe the offer on the table is a bit over done, but he has been contacted. Apparently, Saben recommended him. Said his offense last year(2003) was one of the best he had seen. Also, believes he does more with less talent than anyone else in the conference. Beat Saban Twice. Personally I would rather see him stay at U of A if for no other reason than the BAD blood it would cause. However, Its all over the talk radio's up here. Most are STRESSING! As far as Butch is conserned. He played for Broyles(the AD now), was raised in Springdale, AR, Coached for Johnson who is also from Uof A and still close to Jerry Jones also from U of A. So him taking the job there would not be totally unthinkable should Nutt leave.
If Saban recommends Nutt, then I really have lost all respect for him. He recommended Williams to MSU and we all know how that worked out.
It makes me feel good that Skip has interviewed Nutt...it means he is just not focusing on big names, but in fact he is going through a long and thourough list of solid coaches. He is doing his due diligence, and it will pay off with a good hire. I feel much better about the process than I did last week - I don't believe Petrino has 'an unofficial offer' on the table. He is truly going through all available options. I look forward to hearing who else we talk with in the coming days.
Houston Nutt would be a HUGE disappointment IMO, with the current state of the LSU program I would hope we could do much much better.
