(Photo: Sonny Shipp, 247Sports) The momentum for the Tigers keeps rolling as LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond is staying put in Baton Rouge. LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has locked up Raymond to remain the team’s defensive backs coach, sources confirmed with 247Sports. Raymond has signed a multi-year deal with a pay increase. Raymond has put together back-to-back No. 1 defensive backs classes with the Tigers, hauling in two of the nation’s top safeties this recruiting cycle in JaCoby Stevens and Grant Delpit as well as one of the nation’s elite cornerbacks in four-star Kary Vincent. Raymond had been mentioned as a potential candidate for openings at multiple SEC schools, but Orgeron and Co. will move forward with the former LSU defensive back on the staff. Raymond is widely considered to be one of the nation’s top recruiters, and he remains on an LSU staff that has put together consistent Top 5 finishes. http://lsu.247sports.com/Article/Corey-Raymond-has-signed-a-new-contract-to-remain-at-LSU-49921061 Momentum is a wonderful thing when it's going the right direction. Contracts don't mean shit but I'll take it. It helps with recruiting at least.
Another example of making a statement for recruiting purposes...Tirk mentioned a while back about all the negative recuiting he was hearing that was going on about other coaches saying Raymond was leaving soon. The negatives were getting louder so do it now and nip it in the bud. He is probably worth more than $425k per year and could likely get between $500-550k somehwere else. We probably bump that to $500k in a couple of years.
