I expect Earl Lane will accept another job within a week and then Les will have added three defensive coaches without "firing" anybody.

which can only help clm convince good assts to work with him. they will know they are not gonna get thrown under the bus. thats a more attractive working environment than wondering if you are gonna wind up the escape goat when something goes wrong.

and yes, i know the proper term.

LSU was getting top notch DL long before Lane arrived and it hasn't changed any since he arrived. What LSU needs is a DL coach more than they need a DL recruiter.

LSU has never had the depth of defensive lineman that they have now. Lane has done a pretty good job with them. I believe his group won us a NC. :) Saban did not have a great year in 2004. We do not have great years in even years---road games just too hard. Odd year this year, life will be good again. DLine is just fine.

IMO you're giving Lane waaaaaay more credit than he deserves and LSU doesn't have a significant amount more quality depth than they had before he arrived.

I would have to agree with this.

Lane has not done his job very well.

With all due respect, and I hate to be critical of a coach when we don't have an official replacement, our DL FAR underperformed as a group this year.

I still don't think any of them know how to disengage an offensive lineman. Their entire technique seemed to rest upon straight bull rushing an OL instead of breaking containment and actually going after the ball carrier. It was like they were sumo wrestling.
