"I have accepted the defensive line coaching position at Texas as of a short time ago," Haley said by phone Friday morning. Haley was reassigned to an administrative position after LSU hired Ed Orgeron to coach its defensive line. Haley had been the Tigers' defensive line coach since 2009 when he joined defensive coordinator John Chavis. Chavis left for the defensive coordinator job at Texas A&M two days after the Tigers' 31-28 loss to Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30.
Consider the possibility that the only reason he was still DL coach was because Chief wanted him there. Once Chief left the writing was on the wall because 'O' is a big upgrade. Les placed him in the admin position to soften the exit and not screw him over. He did not get a raw deal, he was treated with respect.
I think I read when the coaching changes were made that he had a special needs kid and by Les putting him in the admin position he would keep his insurance coverage until he found another coaching position.
he got screwed but position coaches are a volatile position. he landed a good gig in the end, however.
