Alabama did it in 93 I believe.

That is the last time or only time I remember anyway since I'm getting old:D

I would disagree and say Matt was a better QB than some but he
did make a little more mistakes also

Bama had a guy named Barker when they won the '92 NC. He was a Matt Mauck type - not highly rated. All he did was win.

Marcus Randall....despite what people say about him, he played well considering the fire he was thrown into. We were one play away from and SEC Championship Game appearance.

This is all I'm going to say about this topic.....its been beat to death and will be resolved soon.

Craig Krenzel(sp?) wasnt an all star either.

Eric Crouch he was succesful...and he couldnt throw a five yard out pattern.

and you can even throw in the Baltimore Ravens a few years ago. great defense....average QB.

snorton, please quit your whining and crying about the qb situation. SabanFan had the best answer already.

That's just one reason why our coach is the highest paid in all the land. He is competent enough to have talent to replace what leaves. Saban and Jimbo will get the job done. Do you think Jimbo would have stayed at LSU instead of passing up two potential offers as a HC if he didn't have faith in our QB situation?? come on... get a grip!!

These are 2 EXCELLENT examples of teams winning it all (college) with having mediocrity at QB. These guys were told to NOT make mistakes. And they played the position mistake free for the most part. Mauck was a notch above that, but was in the same mold of "don't try to win it, but make sure you don't lose it either" type of QB.

I say this year's QB has very similiar stats to that of Mauck from last year. Too many weapons on offense and a solid O-line not to be effective. Jimbo will handle whatever QB is starter accordingly, molding him into a winner.
