I am very surprised by how many people agree with this article. I thought it was a decent argument, but nothing open and shut about it.
Jeremy Schapp reported from Baton Rouge on Saturday and he stated the majority of people who are displaced are in favor of playing this game at Tiger Stadium. The same sentiments were expressed to Joe Horn about the Saints when he was in Houston talking to people. People living in shelters were bussed to the Houston game for a distraction. Jeremy also reported the people were very happy about OU losing to TCU
Regarding people asking for food during the tailgaiting, I think they would eat like royalty at every single tailgait on campus.
I still think there is time, and we have to trust that Skip and Co. will make the right decision.
I guess Dubois main point is the proximety and the fact that it is on LSU campus. I am sure that if the administration feels that one life can lost due to a game being played that it will be moved. If by Saturday there is no imminenet threat to life, then let it play.
His point about CNN panning to an ambulance across the street is pure misguided. Did they pan to dead bodies at the twin towers during the Yankee game? Were they seen as savages who only care about baseball? That game will be remembered forever in NY and for good reason. Tears were shed, the President threw out the first pitch, God Bless America was sang by an entire stadium, and the home team won. Families of Firefighters and the victims of 9/11 were honored. We should hold up NY as an example. The precedent has already been set. Of course we have to decipher the differences and make adjustments, but again I iterate. If by Saturday there is no imminent threat to loss of life by playing a game, then let it play.
