Although James & I aren't on the same political page, he raises some valid and entertaining points about the current BCS system. http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/videopage?videoId=3142664&n8pe6c=2&categoryId=2378529 The link is to the 4 letter sports channel. Carville's clip is about halfway down the right side of the page.
I certainly agree with his basic premise; that there should be a playoff system. He's right that the university presidents are being shortsighted, fighting a playoff system because of monetary concerns. They would make as much if not more in a playoff system. I also agree with him that the Rose Bowl's opposition to a playoff system because of its archaic dedication to the Pac-10/Big Ten champions has resulted in a absurd matchup that no one wants and probably few people outside of California and Illinois will watch. Can't say much for his personal attacks, however. Typical Carville. If you don't agree with someone call them names. No one can accuse him of being a diplomat.
The bowl system is a looong way from going away. Too many competing interests and $$$ for a workable stystem to be fashioned any time soon.
He believes the refs tried conspiratorially to hand the WVU/Pitt game to the Mountaineers to salvage some integrity for the BCS. That never occurred to me, but, man, there were some awful calls in that game! And they all went against Pitt!
our household is the non-celebrity version of matlin/carville. a liberal dem married to a mod/conserv pub. it can get interesting. kinda like the lsu tulane thing. come to think of it, there are a whole hell of a lot of ways we are opposite.
