Taking some out of town friends down to New Orleans tonight. Looking for suggestions for good places to have a good but causal dinner. Something in the Quarter, St Charles/uptown, or the warehouse district. Trying to stay away from the tourist traps like Acme or Mothers.

Hard to beat Port O Call for casual quality if you time it well and evade the crowded times.

I love Port O Call. Probably my favorite burger although they have some pretty good places in Dallas too. They might want something a little more "cajun" though.

You think Mother's is a tourist trap?

Best Tourist trap in the Quarter is Deanie's.

    I think it is.

But you were right on with Jacques-Imo's. That's the best place to bring people for a casual dinner with a real new orleans flair. Another option is Adolfo's on Frenchmen St. Italian Creole Cuisine in a great neighborhood.

I guess Mother's is. I just don't like to think of it that way, but y'all are right. That explains the ever-present line on the side of the building.

Jacques-Imo's is awesome. They are famous for bringing you free shots of tequila for the eff of it while you wait.

I partied with the owner at Hangout Fest. He and the guys from Galactic had a house on the beach 3 houses down from the house that my crew rented. He's a little grey bearded guy that likes to party. We have some mutual friends and he was introduced to me as the owner of Jacque-Imo's. Nice guy.

Also, you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the rear of the restaurant and to the bathroom which is strange.

yeah, I knew him through a friend. He was a blast back before the storm. Walking around in a chef's jacket and shorts greeting all the tables and buying everyone drinks. Super nice guy. I think he's trying to lay off the bottle now.
