Glen Guilbeau is obsessed with being anti-LSU, period, end of story. He ALWAYS finds a negative LSU slant to add to a story. If he writes the story, I refuse to read it.
First, a question. How many people outside of Louisiana know anything about SLU, ULL, La-Tech or ULM? What about outside of a 6 hour radius? NOBODY. Atleast nobody that didn't graduate from there. *I believe Southern is a different story because they are nationally known throughout the african population (atleast I think so, BET had a reality tv show based off Southern students). Tulane is well known throughout the country for their academics, but I personally know several people who transferred to LSU from Tulane and have all said that at Tulane you are paying for the name, not the education. LSU has students from every state and over 13 countries. LSU is nationally competitive in most athletics and is becomming more & more competitive academically. When I think of Michigan, I think the University of Michigan. When I think of Ohio, I think of Ohio St. Granted, both Michigan & Ohio have other good schools, but who outside of Ohio & Michigan really care. And whether ULL, ULM or SLU fans want to admit or not, LSU is that university for Louisiana. The people I know at ULL are drugies. The people I know at SLU didn't get accepted to LSU or couldn't afford to not live with their parents. The people at ULM are from Monroe and probably won't leave Monroe. Alright, I don't know if that makes any sense or if it is at all relevant to anything.... I just had to go on a rant.
to say that LSU doesnt feel a threat from ULL is asinine. Its one of the main reasons they blocked ULL from being just UL. The real threat to LSU is that fact that they wont participate in the University of Louisiana System, which consists of ULM, ULL, SU, GSU, Nicholls, McNeese, Northwestern, SLU and La. Tech. All of these schools, as part of ULS, have integrated curriculum that allows transfers between the schools, and if you take the system as a whole, it has far better accredidatoin and academic programs that LSU. This means that if someone is at a school for nursing, and after their junior division classes are finished, they transfer to another school in the system to finish their nursing curriculum. They will NOT transfer to LSU, because LSU is not aligned to what they have been taking. THe point is that LSU needs to get with the system if they want to be the "flagship", but they wont, because they feel they have to remain seperate to remain above the other schools.
the real threat is someone believing someone else gives a rat's ass about a meaningless university. you are in need of a reality check. quickly. USL = a junior college. no one cares except those who go there. and even many of those don't. oh yeah, its 'separate'. damn USL education.
I don't really see how aligning with the "University of Louisiana System" will help LSU. All that means is that kids will go to those smaller, cheaper schools until right before they need to graduate, and then transfer to LSU to graduate. LSU has to give the degree, but doesn't get hardly anything in return. Why does LSU need to do this loco? Also, add GSU, Nicholls, McNeese and Northwestern to my rant. I live in Louisiana, and forgot about these schools. WHOOPS.
Well lets see.. in the last few years, ULL has been in the CWS, the NCAA basketball Tourney, on CNN for their participation in DARPA, and featured in the Princeton Review.. i'd say thats some national recognition. Tulane is a private school. Anyone who has gone to a private school knows that you are paying for a name, just like in HS. ULL has students from every state and 70 countries.. ( http://orsp.louisiana.edu/facts/background.shtml ) Guess no one has heard of Michigan State, or Ohio, or Miami (ohio) or Bowling Green... ... uhh.. yeah... I say ULL because i know about them, im sure you could argue for the other schools too...
Yup, I was wrong, but that's what rants are for. Regardless, I and many other people could care less about La Tech, ULL, ULM, SLU, McNeese, Nicholls, Northwestern... and whoever else I forgot to list.
If you read the guy's quote, you would see that he said when he thinks of michigan, he things of UM, and i was saying.. nm.. why bother..
