The odds are better that not many of us will live to see another JR. The best we can hope for with the two we got is that they are solid QB's that let the guys around them win the game.
In reference to the "cockiness" issue: I think all good athletes need to have some level of cockiness. It just sort of comes with the territory. The PC way to say it is to use the term "swagger." But it's the same thing--and the most successful teams have it.
That's the word that first came to my mind when I started reading your post and I agree with the good athletes having a certain "Cockiness" but RP blew his own horn and, to me, that's where he crossed the line but he was a kid right out of high school and I'm sure he's matured in two years. :thumb: When you're good at something, you don't have to tell people......they know. It is possible to be cocky/confident without alienating people- though, by human nature, most are jealous of others' success. Look at Jerry Rice, Michael Jorden, JaMarcus Russell, to name a couple off the top of my head. By contrast, you have good ones who not only run their mouths but are pricks like Brady Quinn, Kobe Bryant.
a name that comes to mind with all this talk is laron, he did a lot of talking but also backed it up. is it allowable if you back it up or is it called something else? he is one of my most favorite lsu players i've ever seen but i can remember many times waiting for the ref. to throw a flag for taunting. if anyone that has seen flynn and rp play there is no way that you could suggest that flynn's arm strength is the same as rp.
Dang, it just came to me. JR reminds me of Roman Gabriel. Can stand in the pocket and just flick those gnat like DT's off while waiting to make a play.
And also some might call it a strong confidence even, and thats what you need in a QB in the crunch time. An indecisive QB will never succeed on any level and what makes them indecisive is their lack of confidence. Players that have swagger are the playmakers because they know they can do it, then they do it.
