Garrett is going to be a nice stable QB IMO and a perfect compliment to Shepard. I think we will see multiple QBs used each year in Crowton's system and they will each play a part in the offense one day. With RS's abilities, I would not be surprised to see them both on the field at the same time in certain packages.

I love the fact that LSU grabbed Garrett from MSU. I don't care if Miles and Crowton thought he was garbage, just reading the pain Mississippi State fans went through by losing him to LSU was worth it :)

But obviously, Garrett is a solid QB recruit. And yes, the competition factor is a good point. I was thinking about raising that point in the RP discussions. During a three year span, the only QB we took was RP. RP had no competition. It's a tiny factor in why he didn't appreciate the seriousness of the situation. I like it better when we have at least two quarterbacks competing for the job. As a believer in the benefits of capitalism, I believe competition is a good thing.

And yes, there is a real chance that Garrett will start for LSU one day. Shepard may turn out to be used as something else than a QB -- or Shepard may go early to the NFL. Either way, I hope we get some mega-star QB in 2010 that is better than Garrett to start in his place. But then again, I have to admit that I do feel I have been starting to get very greedy when it comes to LSU football in recent years.

Look, you say Garrett will never play, but you qualify that by saying look at Mauck, look at Flynn. Yes, I agree with you that, especially Flynn, was garbage compared to the mega-beast level I've greedily come to get accustomed to as an LSU fan. But you also said that Garrett is nowhere on the same planet as Flynn. Is Garrett really that freaking pathetic to you? Not even on the same planet as Flynn?????? Trust me, I have no problem trashing Garrett or Flynn, so don't worry about that. Honestly, I thought Herb Tyler was one of the greater QBs in LSU history at the time I watched him play (I never felt that way about Flynn).

"Stable QB"? I don't watch ESPN, so it shouldn't be surprising that I've never heard the term "stable QB" in my life. Is that really a term that has ever been used before? If so, in what context?

I'll admit that it was only on here that I saw someone claim we have a "stable" of QBs for the future. But I don't believe that. I don't believe that Lee/Jefferson/Shepard/Garrett are at the same level of KW, RM, CS, or any other stable of RB's we've had in recent LSU history.

Now, look at USC, or even ND, they might have something I consider close to a stable of QBs like we have at RB at LSU... but I don't think what LSU has at QB is anything close to the level of a "stable" to gloat about.

But yes, I wonder if we will do a two-QB system with Russell Shepard. Shepard might turn out never to be a solid passer in the SEC, so it makes sense that we rotate him with a QB who might be able to pass at an acceptable level for SEC play. I'm hoping Shep can learn to do that, but if he doesn't, I won't be surprised to see us run a two-QB system where we put Shep in just to run, and put a decent QB in for actual passing plays. But I'm not sure how wise that whole grand scheme is.

How sad for you. You have the wrong board. This board is for people who are fairly serious about LSU recruiting.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you. Matt Flynn is God and Chris Garrett is Jesus Christ. Does that make you feel less sad? Poor baby... it's okay... it's okay... *pats your head softly*

I was about to mock you for confusing "stable QB" with "stable QB," but then I realized that I was doing the same thing.

Basically, I recently saw someone on here claim we have a "stable" of QBs coming up through the ranks.

But yes, bhelmLSU was just saying that we have a stable QB with Garrett, in other words, an average quarterback, nothing special. Yes, I read it the wrong way. I'm sorry.

But is Garrett really just a stable QB, average, nothing special? Based on the links I read earlier in this thread, MSU fans were wowed by this guy and thought he would bring their offense to another level (but many of them also thought he would ride the bench the whole time at LSU).

What is so difficult to judge is the mental makeup of the QB. 5 and 4 Star talent that looks so good at the high school level may not translate to SEC. They may never develop the decision making process that they didn't need in HS because of superior athletics. I am watching Taylor Potts at TTU right now, he has it all, on the surface. He can make all the throws; but knowing which throw and to who is sometimes more important. Game management.

When you find a QB who can translate this sentiment to the football field, you have a winner:

"I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me".
