Offenive lineman (excluding TEs) as a group are towards the top of the pay scale. Ciron will be fine, he just may not get the big $$$ up front.

It's sort of interesting that Ciron played LT for LSU and the pros are going to make him a guard or center. Big Herm was a guard at LSU and the Cards immediately made him a RT. Wonder if they were both being played out of position all of those years. Herm is now the #2 RT for the Cards although they got him to drop from the 382 lbs he 1st reported at to about 365lbs to get the quickness to play in space. In any case they like him.

Herman was first tried at tackle at LSU because of his height. Tackles need that leverage. But because of his weight, his slow foot quickness let him get beat to the outside regularly, so he ended up at guard. If he's playing tackle in the NFL, then he has developed some quickness . . . or the Cards don't have a true tackle ready.

Jammal Brown played RT at Oklahoma, but the Saints made him a LT.

Sometimes it speaks to the player's ability to play multiple positions and the needs of the team. Ciron never looked like an NFL left tackle to me. He was mostly outstanding for LSU, though.

The story out here was that they had Herm play some tackle in the Senior Bowl and the Cards OL coach Russ Grimm liked what he saw so they drafted him. The 1st day of mini camps Grimm told him he had the frame of an NFL tackle but he had a series of agility drills for him to run. If he could do those then he had the athletic ability to play in space. If not then they would coach him at guard. Herm apparently passed so they coached/played him at RT since mini camp. When the 1st camp broke up Grimm told him to lose weight from his 382 to 370 by the next mini camp. He did it and looked better. So they told him to get down to 365 for the start of preseason practice and he did. When they put him in during preseason games he started looking really good even running down a Steeler CB who intercepted a Leinert pass(must have been all the practice playing with J. Lee):) He is still backup RT and the coaches apparently really like him. He hasn't taken a rep as a guard to my knowledge.
