Good point. That is something else for the NCAA to carefully consider changing, if they want to shorten the times that games take.
I know that, but this is the same organization that says we can't have a playoff because it would hurt academics. It can't be about dollars, right? They are amateur student-atheletes. Afterall, if the NCAA were about money we'd be giving the players a salary wouldn't we? Dave.
Also, first downs and change of possession do not stop the clock which make sit difficult to manage a game efficently. However, the NFL allows earpieces to call plays into the QB but the NCAA doesnt. Plus there are many other rules that make it harder for the college game to adapt to the new clock rules. The NCAA has to go back to the old way or give college teams more options to work with similar to the NFL.
The NCAA is the ultimate example of over-thinking and idle time. If they wanted to shorten the game, even a small child would say, "Ok, make each half 18 minutes instead of twenty." But.... no... that decision could be done on a conference call, ruining a nice weekend get-together to play golf.
I, for one, don't want the games shorter. At best, we get to see our team only 13 or 14 times a year. I want the games to go as long as possible. But I know it has to do with TV.
Man, where was my mind on that post?? Kind of a football, basketball, soccer, Texas Hold 'em thingy all wrapped up into one sport...
I just assumed you were talking about half-time, and how easy it would be to shorten it from the current 20 minutes.
