It also looked like in the first half we made the defensive choice to "ignore" their run and focus on the the strong blitzes to rattle Quinn. The little bounce out side runs hurt us, but over the course of the game Quinn was too rattled to hurt when we backed out of the blitz. Agreed it was a a perfectly called game even though I was getting a little nervous about the run yardage we were giving up.
It looked like our DE was getting pushed to the middle and loosing containment and the play going around him a lot in the early part of the game. Anyone else notice that?
Miles had the misfortune of replacing a coach that had just won the National Title and put a big swagger back in the team. Then the Tenn game just made some people jump the ship. Lucky for us, Miles did not let that get him down or change his plan for the team. He is proving to be every bit the coach that Saban was and then some. I also personally find Miles to be a much more likable and honest person.
A couple of the replays they showed, you could see the TEs and such push everything to the inside. It looked like a large majority of our blitzes were up the middle thus the outside bounce was open.
IMO, the only "strike" against Les Miles is that he hadn't turned around a failing program. Like it or not, that is what gets the attention of the media (Weis), fans (Saban), etc. Hungry fans appreciate success just a little bit more than fans of a winning program. I think the man has done an excellant job of handling the pressures of replacing a popular/successful coach, convincing top recruits to continue to commit, and taking the heat from fans who wouldn't have settled for anything less than at least an SEC title (which he almost delivered in his 1st year). I can think of only 2 major misteps he's made so far, the Tennessee game and the SEC Champ game last year. Those are 2 games that he should have won easily. All in all, LSU will be OK w/ Miles. The other guy will disrupt some things being at Bama, but I would take the apparent stability of Miles any day. I'd just suggest keeping cool when the 3 or 4 loss season comes around one year.
Tennessee, Yeah. But Georgia in the SECCG? No way he wins that one "easily". We were a tired, worn out team badly in need of a week off.
