Who didn't? VY for one and he proved it on the field. For anyone who is REALLY into reading about football, check this link out. It's the most thorough analysis of 4th and 2 I've ever read. http://www.trojanfootballanalysis.com/rose_bowl_4th_2.html
Wow, I guess we all handle loss in different ways. Some cry, some punch, some write a thesis on a 4th & 2.
That was a great analysis and I would love it if someone would apply the same effort to our '99 season! All kidding aside, I noticed a quote in there that really bothered me and perhaps it deserves to be discussed in another thread but I will mention it here. He then went on to list all the missed opportunities, etc. as evidence that they did not play their best. I have to say that this is one of my "pet peas"(sorry Dough), with many fan bases, teams, and I don't mean to single out PC but this was a perfect example of it. When you have your best players in the game, and they do everything right, except win that particular battle, why do we always hear that we didn't get a team's best? It seems to me that there are eleven guys lining up on the opposite side that have some say in the mater. Mistakes, dropped balls, mental errors, even home cookin are things I can understand, but if you execute everything correctly, you can still be beaten by the other team. I can't say that I would characterize PC as a sore loser, but statements like that tend to cheapen the game for me. Perhaps it is just the emotion of the game catching up with you before you get a chance to think about what you are saying, but I sure heard it a great deal from fans last year, opponents and Tigers as well, long after the games were over.
It's very likely that this happens quite often for players, coaches, fans. It is easy after a tough loss to look at what went wrong and want to pin point one thing. Assigning blame is something we do as a society quite well and perhaps too often. There are still plenty of Trojan fans who just can't seem to get past this game......maybe never will.
I meant it in good faith as well. Had I this writers talent, I probably would have done a similar analysis of the defensive breakdown at the end of the 04 Capital One. But I don't so i just punched a wall. It is a very good read for any CFB fan.
Back to the interview: I liked his tie. I hate this time at the end of summer when there's nothing decent to watch and it's not football season yet...
that was a pretty pathetic show, and im jonesing for some cfootball real bad. i did enjoy the glorification of usc's schedule. herbie specifically mentioned the tough game at nebraska. u know what the line is on that game? usc -10.5. boy, real tough. granted lsu is favored by 7 against its best opponent, but its at home. i'll say it again. playing 5 great teams and 5 bad teams is tougher than playing 10 good teams (for a top team that is). usc's schedule being ranked #2 is the biggest problem with the system.
