Hard to argue with the analysis but while OSU missed three easy opportunities for three easy points on three easy chip-shot xp attempts, LSU also missed scoring opportunities. The dropped int (by Ronnie Prude I think) deep in OSU territory when he had the sideline all to himself and would have scored six. The overthrown pass in the endzone from the two yard line late in the fourth quarter (that pass shouldn't have been much harder than a chip-shot field goal). The two missed field goals (though they were both from 40 yards out). The TD called back on a motion penalty by a player on the other side of the field not involved in the play.....

Yeah, we were lucky to win. That was my feeling Saturday night and today. But we were lucky to win because we couldn't make the above things happen and because the db's dropped to many Anderson passes. The missed xp's were just a small, yet dramatic, part of the story.

After watching the replay, I actually feel a little better. These guys have character. They will not roll over when times get tough. Forget all of the bad things that happened during the game. Every one of us prepared ourselves for the aftermath of an embarrasing loss when Russell's pass sailed over Skyler's head. Oregon State was playing to preserve their victory which they had in their hands. The only ones out there who hadn't given up were the coaches and players. If a team is going to beat us, they had better be prepared to nut it up for the full 60 minutes because these Tigers will not go down easy.

A side note: I was extremely impressed with Dwayne Bowe's demeanor. After he scored that huge TD in regulation, he did not go into convulsions of "look at me". He merely turned around and looked to hand the ball to the ref. This guy is a class act. :thumb: :geaux: :champs:

    Good Point, martin

    I hadn't noticed that.

Next article of his may well be written in Chaucer's Middle English. :)

I don't think the LSU offensive line is as bad as he makes it sound. Our QB's were pressured, but we didn't give up any sacks. OSU gave up four, including a fumble. This OSU defense was ranked #7 last year and clearly will be ranked highly again.

I think the mud made a bigger difference than he seems to. I've never seen a field so muddy in Tiger Stadium. Those interceptions would have been caught on a dry field. When the field started drying out a little in the 4th quarter, our fast backs started getting open.

The Tigers have a lot of work to do before the SEC opener at Auburn, but anybody who judges the 2004 LSU team by this one mud games is making a mistake.

They were all the way down to the chicken wire

Red, as usual, you're spot on and not so quick to swallow crap. :thumb:

There ain't a damned thing wrong with our OL ... as evidence by the sack count and other "tells" ... You'll see it in the next several weeks with the LSU OL moving people out. Teams that try OSU's Defensive tactics against LSU will get toasted.

The problem was poor coaching in the first half and a failure to properly consider the conditions by Mr. Fisher when scripting his plays ... he'll fess up in his show tonight ... I know people are gonna flood 'em with calls and ASK THE TOUGH QUESTIONS!

OSU wouldn't have had their success against the LSU OL on a dry field ...

LSU would have come out and tore 'em up at the outset with speed and especially their strength advantage ... instead we got a SLIP N' SLIDE (trademark registered) adventure and a roller coaster victory ride ...

Under the sodded field in Death Valley lies galvanized chicken wire ... it's driven down and anchored in the substrate with galvanized rods ... the sod (or the mush) was gone in places and the wire was exposed ... they'll dig it up and patch the worst spots of it this week.

Had the proper play calling emerged early enough ... instead of late in the 3rd quarter ... after the conditions were obvious, then maybe this whole debacle could have been avoided ...

WHAT WILL THE RANDALL DETRACTORS SAY NEXT WEEK WHEN HE COMES OUT AND PUTS LSU 35-0 UP AT HALFTIME ON A DRY FIELD? :dis:

I like Russell to start ... when he's ready ... he's not ready.

LSU lucked out and overcame poor coaching and poor execution.

Champions find a way to win. LSU did just that.

Randall starts this Saturday ... it's still his team, whether you like it or not

To be honest, on the two consecutive long gainers from Russell to Bowe in the final 90 seconds, it looked to me like the Beavers had dropped into a prevent D...Bowe was just getting that wide open and finding the seams to run in. Now, it's apparent to me that the OSU DBs were just exhausted from trying to keep up.

Very true but, OSU was a good team as well. They'll be good this year. I only hope we will build from this game and not become afraid because of a bad game.

why don't we stick to reality for evidence, instead of conjuring up what you think might happen as reason to accept what you believe? every time randall has entered a ball game, he has stunk it up. saturday was only the latest in a long line of poor on-field performances. yes, it's possible he could suddenly light it up the next time, but its also possible that coach saban could call me up from the stands to jump in the ballgame, and i could throw the winning TD, and every chick in the stadium will jump my bones. if you can't find any evidence based on reality, then obviously your argument is not very compelling. wake up and realize that randall will NEVER be a good qb...a freshmen just outpeformed him...so obviously he was more "ready" than randall was...and the freshmen will only get better...i can't say that about randall.

OSU was defending the sidelines in order to keep the Tigers inbounds and avoid stopping the clock. Classic Saint's strategy from Mike Riley.
