People always make fun of the Independence Bowl. I guess because it is in Shreveport. But do you realize that it has produced some of the best games in recent history?

2002 - awesome game where Ole Miss stuns Nebraska 27-23 and gives them their first non-winning season in 41 years!

    2001 - Alabama wins a 1 point game 14-13

2000 - In one of the best bowl games of the season, Miss State beats Texas A&M in one of the biggest blizzards seen at a bowl game. You couldn't see the lines on the field. Yet 84 TOTAL POINTS were scored. MSU wins in overtime 43-41!

1999 - Ole Miss beats Oklahoma BY 2 POINTS 27-25

1997 - LSU BEATS NOTRE DAME!!!

In 4 out of the last 5 years, the games have been decided by 2 points or less!

And yet this is the bowl that everyone hopes they don't have to go to. Oh well.

Good point, Ellis. There have been some good matchups that have produced games that were fune to watch. That blizzard game was crazy. I guess it beats the Music City Bowl. The I-Bowl probably gets a bad rap because it's in Shreveport. I'm not very familiar with the town (I've had much more experience with the I-10 sites in my life) but I've always heard there was nothing to do in Shreveport. After the LSU win in '95, we elected to drive back to Lafayette to celebrate the win because of what we'd heard about Shreveport. Is it really that bad (not talking about Evangel)?

Shreveport is better than when the Tigers last visited. There is as much to do in Shreveport if not more than in Baton Rouge granted you are 21. The bars here stay open till 6am and then there are more casinos than you can shake a stick at.

I did a 4 team underdog parlay - on the moneyline for the bowls

    I picked

    Mississippi
    Purdue
    Fresno State
    Pittsburgh

Is that amazing or what, I picked 4 underdogs to win out right, and they all won, amazing.

Unfortunalty, I figured I would lose, so I put $2 on it, to win $84.

If I had put 10 bucks down, thats $420

    #25 Peach Bowl – Maryland 30 Tennessee 3

Unless you were 1) a Terp fan 2) a Florida Gator fan or 3) already tipsy, the Peach Bowl held very little appeal as we prepared to ring in the New Year. E.J. Henderson aside, the game lacked great individual efforts and was all but over in the early stages of the 3rd quarter.

Yet, the Vols are in ESPN's preseason top 25 and the Tigers are ignored.

Yeah, but because they are Tennessee, surely they can't be on the way down...right?

I don't feel sorry for Shreveport

Sure, they and the Independence Bowl get a bad rap. However, Shreveport pulls for the Dallas Cowboys, rather than the Saints. The Cowboys games are televised there, not the Saints. As far as I know, Shreveport is NOT a big LSU town. There is a relatively LARGE contingent of stridently ANTI-LSU folks there.

I don't know why this is the case, but it is so.

Of course, that doesn't make the folks there bad, or make Shreveport a bad place. That just makes Shreveport a part of East Texas rather than Northwest Louisiana.
