Thanks Buckeye fans! You guys have a hell of a program. This was a crazy season and both of us were lucky to even be playing in this game. Good luck to your team in the future seasons.
Whoops, missed this thread when I made mine... here's the repost: Congrats to your tigers, they played well tonight and were the better team. Tough pill to swallow due to the circumstances (last year) & stereotype driven world, but a much different feeling than last year. OSU attacked, kept fighting & made adjustments. They just didn't have the horses, especially in the passing game, to keep up with LSU. Looks like OSU was indeed destined for '08 hopes instead. Boeckman greatly exceeded expectations this year, and in the end wasn't quite ready for this kind of stage as a passer. On the flipside, Flynn was more than up to the challenge, and made a number of very tough throws, especially early on when he was being pounded. Tip of the cap to ya. What are the chances any talking head realizes strength & execution were the real factors tonight, not speed? Sure speed is flashy and easy for lazy analysts to spot, but it was the collapsing pocket & physical coverage that hampered OSU's O and the LOS that let LSU pick apart OSU's D. That Dickison (sp) had the only unstoppable SEC speed tonight
Thanks jwinslow. I'd have to respectfully disagree on the tightend speed thing though. I give those props to Gary Crowton's formations and play calling.Thats why he was open. But damn he's got good hands!
I must not have used the sarcasm font... that's what I was getting at. Great execution & deception/playcalling... I'll take that any day over the overhyped 'speed' angle. I would have killed to have (the pedestrian 40 time) Mike Doss roaming the secondary back there.
Agreed. At the receiver positions, the athletes were just not there for OSU (as opposed to LSU, who have people waiting in the wings). I didn't fear this unit, and I thought it was an area we could win the battle convincingly, especially if we could control Beanie and force constant 2nd and 3rd and longs. And we did just that. I knew Boeckman was good for 2-3 interceptions if the game was put on his shoulders, and he didn't disappoint. We made the one coverage blunder on that play to Saine, but that was it. Even the lone OSU TD pass had to be placed perfectly on 4th down and was a pretty incredible catch by Robiskie. Reminded me a lot of the OU game in 03, actually. On the flipside, the safeties and the one corner plus their nickel/dime backs were no match for our very athletic receivers, tight ends, backs that were out in the passing game.
I agree. (note this is not the only application of the 'back 7 speed' but one I wish to point out) LSU's DBs did a great job on the fade routes, which is how they usually created holes in coverage this year. I'm also unsure why Robiskie did not get any fade routes until the game was over... that ball to Small was ill-advised. He's not a jumpball WR, he's a poor man's Ginn. I would honestly like to see this year's OSU team play UF 06 (OSU ran on them, JT just ignored it), and that OSU team play this year's LSU squad. I think Troy could have moved the ball on occasion. Your D earned a lot of coverage sacks, but let Todd leak out quite often. I think that would favor an improvisor like Troy who would spread the D out more. Instead your DL was able to collapse the pocket, often more methodically than violently. Would the outcome have been different? Who knows... last year's D certainly would have been exploited more by LSU. But after it was all said and done, it turned out OSU didn't match up that well vs LSU's D.
Thanks Buckeyes. You guys have some real classy, top-notch fans. You guys have handled defeat and all the rough criticism graciously. Ya'll have nothing to hang your heads about. You have a tremendous football program and your team fought hard. However, I do have some constructive criticism for you guys: Outside of tOSU, UM, Penn State and maybe Wisconsin, the Big 10 is pretty weak. The rest of those teams don't present much of a challenge. The SEC is 9 or 10 teams deep right now, which means that everyone of us is battle tested. Every week is a big game, and almost every team can beat you. When we get to our bowl games, our opponent's determination, mamoth O-line, overwhelming speed, or unique style of play doesn't bother us as much. We've played against it already, and probably have all of those talents ourselves. I understand that you can't control how good your conference is, but you can definately beef up your OOC schedule. I am glad to see that you guys have scheduled a home and home series with USCw. I hope you guys win both games. Thanks again and good luck next year!!! :crystal: :crystal: :crystal: :geaux:
Congratulations to the Tigers and the great state of Louisiana! Your team played a smart, mature, well executed game. Woody would have been mad at our defeat but impressed with your team, especially your excellent main running back. Maybe instead of us cheering OH-IO....its OH-EAUX! Ohio fan from Canton
