"College football is not just an exhilarating sport, but a billion-dollar business that Congress cannot ignore,"

And there you have it, the real reason Congre$$ would like to get involved.
The BCS may be flawed but wait until the govt tries to fix it.

Dear Congress, please stick to the things you were elected to do.
When you get those things right (never) then maybe we can discuss your input on the BCS.

I'd really like to know how much is spent "looking into this." I'm getting sick of only paying a third of my check in taxes when it's clear there's more the government could be using my money for.

So lets see, they "cannot ignore" the BCS process because college football is a "billion-dollar business" and the season too often ends in "sniping and controversy".

I don't beleive that either legal profit (no matter how large) or a lack of utopian harmony amongst citizens, or both, justify the state mandating/regulating/fixing. He has not given a compelling reason why the state should NOT continue to ignore college football.

Unless he comes up with better reasons than that (like, I don't know, consititionally defensible reasons) I prefer he just back off.

Sometimes I'm ashamed to be a Republican. This guy should know better.

Its funny how you live long enough to see things come full circle. Republicans have now beeen in power long enough to have become in many ways the fat, intellectually lazy, power-addled bastards the Dems were when they were booted out in 1994. While only a drop in the bucket, this is the kind of shenanigans that will ultimately turn off folks like me and inspire the ground-swell that would be neccessary to sweep them out.

There's a little bit more to this than you think. If senators from Western States (The Mountain West) threaten something you'll be most likely see the Mountain West become a full BCS partner. That is what this could most likely be about. It would be cool because the BCS could tell ND that they don't deserve any reserved BCS spot.

I'm just glad congress has resolved drugs in baseball and Indian nicknames, so they can give this national issue the full attention it deserves.

I disagree. Government is supposed to be for the people and by the people. Congress looking into the BCS is one such rare occurance where they have actually heard what the people want and are making a stand for us. We all want a playoff. But the NCAA is never going to change unless somebody intervenes. This is one such very rare instance where I'm actually proud of Congress stepping into it. Just hope they don't screw it up even worse.
