I coached the option in high school for quite some time. Very effective at that level. Most coaches teach what they know, and if you're not exposed to the option, it can be hard to grasp. There are so many schemes/formations you can run on offense. There's very few college teams that run it. If you are to run it, you have to be sold out to it. Option FB is a total team concept. Some college teams dabble in it, mainly using a speed option in their attack and that's all. LSU ran that with Herb Tyler and it was effective. The bottom line to running an offense is how do you want to move the ball and to put it in the end zone. Also how fast do you want to move the ball is also important. Do you want to eat up the clock/rest your defense, go no huddle, 2 min. offense, etc. It's just the philosophy of that coach.
