1. Sorry but I don't believe it. His pattern of a successful first year, then followed by regressing every year after seemed to follow him around from job to job... LSU was no exception, just the latest example.
  2. Yea but here he averaged 30 less offensive plays per game than anywhere else. That pretty much confirms what most of us already knew and exactly what he is saying in the article.

Plus he give Miles credit, saying his "plan" won them 40 games. Just not by running Crowton's offense.

This shouldnt be a surprise. Jimbo didnt get to run his offense either with Miles. And Im sure Strudwa wont get to run his.
  3. Crowton is so full of BS his eyes are floating.
  4. You want boring? Just wait until he and Edsall are paired.

They might not throw a pass all season.
  5. I have also heard that wasn't his offense in 2007, either.

So what, exactly, were we paying him for?
  6. That was certainly true about him at Oregon. When he was Oregon's OC, the offense began to under-perform. By the time he left, the Duck's high powered O was sputtering and backfiring, and just wasn't running right.

I've never heard a single Duck say, "I wish he'd come back".

  7. Correct.

All the smart people that knew football were saying this all along.

"Were there parts of that offense that were mine? Yeah. The philosophy that Coach Miles had was to be good on defense, be good on special teams and win it in the fourth quarter," Crowton said. "We won a lot of games in the fourth quarter. We beat Auburn twice in the fourth quarter. What it did is it shortened the game. We didn't have a lot of offensive plays. When you look statistically, it wasn't great, but that wasn't our goal. Our goal was to win games. We won 40 in four years."

that's the truest statement I have seen in a long time

Go back to the 2007 championship season and watch close victory after close victory. (and close loss for that matter)

  8. LSU-38
    Ohio St.-24

    ?

    Moo St. 45-0
    Va. Tech.48-7
    Bama 41-34
    Old Mrs. 41-24
    M. Tenn. 44-0
    Tulane 34-9
    Tech. 58-10

12-2 not a bad season, lots of teams would like to have been 12-2

  9. Remarking about the close games in the 4th quarter, not the lack of offense. That team had so much talent offensively, it couldn't even be held back by the likes of our head coach. That was Crowton's offense.

Granted he didn't have a Matt Flynn to run his offense after that (although people would argue even Flynn was just so-so). But the offense sure got dumbed down after that and I don't think Crowton knows the meaning of dumbing down an offense. It's not in his blood. I can't even really argue that much that is shoudn't have been dumbed down. Still in the end, it met with mediocre results more times than not. The point being is that a lot of stuff was out of Crowton's hands after 07.

So, Istsl, what u are saying is that anyone who disagrees with you & the assertion that CGC was calling most of the plays & that he sucked, is basically dumb & does not know football? I saw numerous threads about this topic with many insightful people posting & it was basically a draw in opinion. I would put my general football accumen up against most, & certainly have no insider information about coaching decisions @LSU, & I disagree with u. No disrespect, just difference of opinion. Do u have specific insight about CLMs coaching decisions? As I recall BHelm has said that the O was mostly CGCs, but CLM had to step in more & more last year secondary to the erratic playcalling eluded to above. To me, BHelm & DadLSU are clearly the most informed, & I trust their insight the most.
