Hell, I'm speaking from personal experience too! After the Arizona State game when we were lit up through the air and then blowing a 21-point lead to Tennessee and losing in OT, I came here, to this very site, called for Pelini's head, trashed his defense, screamed, cursed, etc. ....NOW look at our defense!!!! I couldn't have dreamed of a better fit. ...and I'm still ashamed that I ever ranted against him as much as I did--ESPECIALLY so early on and not giving him an honest chance. But at least I've learned from my mistake....Crowton gets my full support.
You forgot - on the road, in the rain, with a new starting QB who had to learn a whole new offense from a new OC etc etc...
i did too. and that is what kept going through my mind last night. if i had my way after his first couple of games, we would have lost a gem!
It may not have been a spectacular or pretty win in a sense, but a WIN is a WIN if it works. I agree with AtlantaBengal that there is no reason to show all your cards; also if the game already exposed some offensive line issues, that is what they should concentrate on fixing before going to the next level in the playbook.
Flynn can throw it down field, and I'm sure that he will plenty during the season, but as has been mentioned ad nauseum, we didn't NEED to. Perhaps many of the FANS were panicking when we weren't scoring left and right in the first half and perhaps that gave the talking heads at ESPN something to criticize (they won't anymore because Michigan will be the meal du jour out of the top 10 and VT didn't impress), but I don't think Miles and Company were nervous. They knew we'd win big, even being conservative, and we did. Now, that brings us to VT. I watched most of the game, and VT had to open up the playbook a bit more in order to actually win their opener (against a team that should NOT be that close with a team picked to win their BCS conference and ranked in the top ten.) I saw plenty of plays that Miles and his staff are going to be able to really plan for (like the play action to the TE.) Guys, we were vanilla; we didn't show much. We ARE the #2 team, and I feel like next week, people are going to really start to believe it.
