True, but there would be much fewer 3 and outs, much better field position and probably more poits if we could catch the ball. Plus i think Miles would actually throw more if there was a chance of a completion. If you cant catch it, no point in throwing it.
You know, as much as the offensive philosophy leaves little to be desired, LSU if we catch the balls, don't fumble, and convert a few 3rd downs, just a few, we probably win this game.
Right there's the rub. It's not like we were blown out in this game. The score was close, and the game could have turned in our favor if one or two of the above roll our way.
That is the frustrating part. The O is close to working well enough that players can be held responsible but it is ugly and not flexible enough to blame the coaches. Probably why there is such furor on the board room for both POVs
If LSU benched every WR that had trouble catching the ball they wouldnt have any WRs to put on the field. Not one WR has stepped up and shown the ability to consistantly catch balls that hit them right in the hands.
No excuse, but I don't understand why that's even a penalty. So what if a receiver is a few inches in front of where he's supposed to be. How is that an advantage for the offense? Still, championship teams don't make or overcome those types of mistakes, but that is one of the most ticky tack penalties that there is.
Worst play I saw was (even the announcers called it) Miles calling a TO to have #14 throw a pass. Even announcers said, "hmmmm, they may be using a 2 pt conversion play here, they're talking to #14." I don't understand why that rule exists either.
