As much as it looked like New Orleans had dodged a bullet yesterday, it appears today that the full nightmare, worst-case scenario may, in fact, be in progress.

Prayers to all affected by the storm. I feel absolutely stunned.

I saw some pics of Gulfport this morning. It's unbelievable. The Beau Rivage Casino was flooded up to the 3rd floor and the Riverboat floating casino was blown a half mile from it's normal location. They talked to man whose house and wife were blown away. So sad. I have a very good friend who lives on the coast highway there. They evacuated Saturday and at this time are unable to get back and have no idea if their house is still there.
Damn, why does it take these kind of things for us to place other things in the right perspective?

You can watch Nagin's interview on WWL at the wwltv.com web site. It is from last night, so it has gotten worse since his interview. And the interview was bad enough to leave me numb.

That early report I gave you 3-4 was as the water was rising from the levee breach. My family ended up with water in their two-story house on Memphis, over 6-1/2 feet. I believe Hines had 8 feet as they are lower than our street and easily flood during rains. It's just incredible! I wonder why the Army Corps doesn't airlift and drop concrete rubble & clay and other fill material into this breach to stop the tidal waters. Army Corps of Engineers, Please get the lead out!!!

That would seem to be the first priority for a good engineer,

Not New Orleans, but indicative of the power of Katrina: The President Casino in Biloxi is now sitting on top of the Holiday Inn across the street.

Given the scope of damage and the fact that people are still in need of rescue, I think it's a little early to start bitching about what is not being done.

Just saw video of the twin spans about thirty minutes ago on WBRZ 2 in BR. It is unbelievable how badly damaged the entire stretch of it is. That route into New Orleans will not be available for months upon months. Fortunately, the Causeway is currently still able to be used by emergency personell.
