Ya know, I havn't heard anything about the Grand Isle area from the media (I havn't seen TV today). Is it just settled upon by everyone that it does just not exist anymore?

A quick google search for "President Casino" found this gem from August 10, 2005:

President Casino shutting down in October[IMG]
By TOM WILEMON
[IMG]

BILOXI - Hundreds of workers at President Casino learned this week that their jobs will end in October, months earlier than they had expected.

Of the more than 700 people who work at the casino, only 62 will be retained.

Some of the workers who received termination notices said they felt misled. They knew they would be without work when the gambling barge's new owner, Silver Slipper, moved it to a new location in Hancock County, but they didn't know it would be so soon.

God bless the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. I grew up in Gulfport, right on Highway 90, but my house and entire neighborhood was destroyed in Camille. So much was built back over the years, but there were still a lot of familiar things in that area. I fear that is now not the case. I saw the ABC anchor this morning standing in front of the ruins of the church I grew up in.
Our people are strong people, but there is only so much one can endure. From here in Virginia, I send you all my prayers.

I was in shock watching that video. The power of water is just awesome. Every place in that video was under water.

I simply can't comprehend all of this. I feel so helpless sitting here watching all this unfold.

Come on man, some common sense, please. Not everyone is in rescue mode!
1. You gotta plug the breach first to keep out the tide while rescue ops are on
2. Then you gotta get the pumps running and pump out that poison water
3. Then you gotta evaluate infrastructure (damaged bridges, structures, gas lines, sewer lines) & isolate/condemn/quarantine as called.
4. Then you bring in thousands of Red Cross personnel & supplies and set-up tent cities & feeding stations all over the greater N.O. area (People are already dehydrated and hungry and can live without water for three days)
5. Fema and the rest come in and set up (Missing Persons, etc). That includes the military to gain control (Looting, Civil disorder, etc)
6. Then you START TO THINK about letting the people back in a controlled manner.

But first, you gotta plug those breeches, best at low tide because that's less work on your pumps. And don't talk to me about "bitching", I've got family with 6-1/2 feet of water in their house less than 1 mile away from the breach. Okie Tiger probably has as much or more in his house 3 blocks away.

My brother is saying the Jefferson Parish is not letting anyone back in until Monday and that is just so people can collect any belongings they can find, then to leave for a month.

yes u gotta have a permit to prove you're a resident then you will be allowed to go in to get necessities. Then come back in a month or two.

How many people do you think will just bail on living in New Orleans because they don't want to have to live through the cleanup and rebuild? I'm thinking a lot of folks who have the means will be sending out resumes all over the Southeast...anywhere not near the coast because they plan on only sticking around long enough to collect any insurance money they're due and getting out of there for good. It's going to be a mess there for a long time.
