re: Tennessee Hires David Cutcliffe - Maybe. Still in Rumor Stage.

In 2005, Cutcliffe (now 55) underwent successful triple-bypass surgery to correct a 99-percent blocked artery. Wouldn't that be much bigger of a deal than the "health issues" Meyer was crying about?

I know, I post a lot about LSU's rich military tradition. As far as I know, the only state school that rivals us in military service is Texas A&M (being that I read that they are the only non-Academy that has turned out more US Military Officers than we have). I wish we would have kept the strong ROTC and Corps of Cadet tradition we had like A&M and VT do today. I read recently about how Huey Long was the one that got rid of our ROTC band in favor of a "show band" like we have today. And considering all the good things I've read that Huey did for LSU, I'm not too worried about it.

In 2005, Cutcliffe was hired as the assistant head coach (offense) of Notre Dame (by Charlie Weis, an man known as a great offensive NFL X and O's guy that is now OC of the NFL Chiefs).

If Cutcliffe (who was a QB coach for 9 years) becomes Tenn's head coach, he'll most likely be able to get some of the greatest QBs in the nation to want to play for him. He coached:

--Heath Shuler (All-American, #3 overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft)

--Peyton Manning (All-American, #1 choice in the 1998 NFL Draft)

--Tee Martin (fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft)

--Eli Manning (All-American, #1 choice in the 2004 NFL Draft).

--Erik Ainge (fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft)

good point JohnLSU. Need to put a bracket around Tee Martin and add National Championship.

Yeah, in this video of one of Tenn's athletic facilities, it shows that they have two wax sculptures in the front foyer: one of Peyton Manning right next to Tee Martin.

A name that has been tossed out their this morning on Twitter is Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith. Another name emerging is Randy Edsall of Connecticut.

    Cutcliffe turns down Tenn

ESPN is reporting that Cutcliffe has withdrawn his name from consideration as the Tenn head coaching search. Supposedly the next name on the list is Louisiana Tech's Derek Dooley.
