TIM BRANDO: LSU needs next step in Brown gesture

When I was in Gainesville, Fla., a couple of weeks ago, LSU coach John Brady asked me if I could give Dale Brown a call.

Brady had earlier talked to Brown about honoring the former LSU coach at Sunday's game with Kentucky. Brown had shown some reluctance and Brady was asking me to call Brown on his behalf.

Evidently, Brown changed his mind because by the time I talked to Dale he had agreed to be honored at the Kentucky game.

    And that's a good thing.

There are plans to drop a banner with Brown's name on it in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. But if you're going to honor him, why stop there? Why not name the court after him?

Dale Brown Court at Pete Maravich Assembly Center even sounds cool.

If you check out Bobby Cremins' career at Georgia Tech - the number of ACC championships, the number of Final Fours - as much as I love Cremins, they're not as good as Brown's.

Brown beat Kentucky more than any other SEC team had ever beaten the Wildcats. He showed the SEC that teams in the conference could compete and beat Kentucky.

He took two teams to Final Fours. Since his first trip to the Final Four, Georgia, Mississippi State and Florida have all been to Final Fours.

We have a real tendency in Louisiana not to appreciate things. The banner is a good honor. But LSU should take the next step and name the court after him.

    You here that?

Bobby Cremins career at Georgia Tech wasn't as good as Dales

And my little girl can't beat me in the 100 meter hurdles, should they rename the track at LSU after me? Remember the link to the football thing that said this team is better than that team because team A beat team B which beat team C and so on. This sounds a lot like that. Anyone thats wants to can make a million positive comparisons like the Cremins comparison but anyone can make a million negative coparisons just as well. The question of whether Dale was good or bad for LSU isn't as cut and dry as many people would like to believe. Yes he did some good but he did some bad too. It just depends on your own personal opinion as to how much weight you put on each thing good and bad as to which way the scale tips.:geaux: :lsug: :D

It wasn't my opinion, it was Tim Brando's.

According to him, he says Dales #'s were better than Cremmins.

    Just as simple as that....

The team A beat team B thing worked........
LSU beat OU and the Big 12 Stunk in their bowl games didn't they?

Actually it didn't when you put Okalahoma and LSU into it it said Oklahoma was better but good try anyway. I also wasn't trying to credit you with Brando's quote just saying that arguments could be made on both sides. I think everone agrees that Dale was both good and bad, the disagreement is on which side out weighs the other.:geaux: :lsug: :D

Please find a post where I said OU was better than LSU.

I used the argument of team A playing team B to say the Big 12
was weak and the teams there weren't as good as the other
    conferences.

I said that Bama gave them thier closest game until they lost and
    that we routed Bama.

I knew we would win because the conference of the best team of
all time wasn't all it was made up to be.
