It took until the end of the article for me to realize it, but LSU is profiled here because of the uniqueness of the situation. As the story concludes, taking legal action (at least that pertaining to the fraud) as was taken here set a precedent, one likely to be relied upon in future cases of this kind at other schools. Besides, the article clearly states the steps taken by the school to make amends, such as changes in test taking and percentage of athletes in class requirements. I didn't see it as a hit piece, though I never like to see LSU portrayed in a negative light anywhere.
