Hopefully L. Sanders can live up to his billing and some of the lesser heralded bluechippers (Coleman, Q. Johnson, Cooper) can overachieve. If not, maybe one of our DE's can adapt to play the LB position, or one of our DBs do an E. Alexander impression and step up to the middle. Saban recruited some talented tweeners (C. Taylor, S. Jordan, Korte) that may be able to transition, if times get desperate. I think our strength at the front 4 can compensate for any perceived talent deficits at LB play anyway.
:dis: :dis: Are you serious? I can't believe how quickly people are judging Jamarcus and Flynn. THese kids are freaking reshirt sophmores. Give em a break. To say saban didn't sign a good quarterback is terribly ignorant. Wait a couple of years and see how these guys pan out before we start bashing them. After what I saw in the Iowa game Russell looks like he might just be okay. THe kid has a cannon and will be a first round pick if he learns how to play with a little more poise. Flynn hasn't really gotten a shot but certainly hasn't done anything that would give any indication that he will be a failure. Lay off.
When Randall is the starter, in Sabans last year, to say that Saban signed a great quarterback is terribly ignorant. What were Tyler and Hodsons statistics their second year in the system. Either Russell or Flynn my eventually be outstanding but as of today they have not validated your opinion.
Roygu, agree re: linebackers, but quarterbacks? Come on. Mauck was a Saban recruit, and he was like our Dilfer. The other recruits are REDSHIRT FREAKING FRESHMEN! It's "terribly ignorant" to say that Saban did or did not sign a great quarterback at this point.
these guys had no experience and only one started a couple times. Wait until they get into the games in the next 2 years to bash them! Can't bash somebody who's yet to have an opp.
I'm not bashing anyone. Just stating the obvious. How much experience did Schaeffer and Ainge of Tennessee have? How much did Leak of Florida have the year before? Opportunity? They had a year to learn the system compared to the three I mentioned who only had a fall camp. Randall's play gave Russell every opportunity to win the job. Russell did however, appear to be the quarterback we all hoped he would be in the last half of the Iowa game so maybe...
Schaeffer and Ainge did ok, it's not like they lit the world on fire. Leak the year before, he looked ok but what was Florida's record?.........and last year what did he do to light it up? Tennessee did make it to the SECCG by the skin of their teeth, (and with another QB) but you act like these players just tore the SEC up and they didn't. Their play on average was just that, average.
