In this day and age of instant and 24 hour news, and the internet, all public figures and politicians should understand that everything they do will be on the on the air and public knowledge and they will be criticized for it by somebody. If the Hon. Senator thinks his private life is immune from public scrutiny, he needs to find something else to do. It may or may not be right, but it is reality. All that said, I still think he told his wife he was only talking and getting a massage – that is the company line and he is sticking to it.
What does Vitter being against gay marriages have to do with him paying for heterosexual company? The way I look at it is he manned up about it and didn't try to hide it under the rug, which I'm SURE other politicians have tried to do, so good on him. At this point, I could care less. Now it's between he and his family (and God, I suppose).
He has pushed for a ban on gay marriage in order to preserve the sanctity of marriage between one woman and one man. In the meanwhile he was blatantly violating the sanctity of his own marriage. If he is going to be a loud voice in support of the sanctity of marriage to the point of discriminating against roughly 10% of our population, he better back it up. Obviously he was just yet another hypocrite.
i dont care if he took a stance against gay marriage, or if he has an affair. neither issue matters even slightly. being against gay marriage is like being against broccoli, it just doesnt matter.
Yes but he violated the sanctity of his own marriage with another woman, not with another man - now THAT would make him a hypocrite. So his hypocrisy is more on his family values stance than on his gay marriage stance. I still don't see what it has to do with his stance on gay marriage. Cheating on your wife with another woman is not really the same as two dudes tying the knot. Besides, you should know that in Washington, hypocrisy knows no bounds!
Yeah, he really manned up. He came clean only after a phone call from someone at Hustler Mag questioning why he called the D.C. madam. He was busted. Now a whore from New Orleans is claiming he visited her whorehouse. I have no problems with prostitution. But when you're a politician running on traditional family values and telling people how wrong they are for their lifestyle, you best have your own house in order. If not, you're nothing more than a hypocrite. That must be a requirement to work in D.C.
Cheating is cheating even if it is in the past. Some circumstances may be worse than others, but it really does not matter if you do it with a woman, a man or broccoli. If you are supposed to be a leader of the “family values” set, you really should come clean on the front end about your past, not wait until your past is exposed. Otherwise you really impair your credibility.
Two comments: 1. Any politician who caters to the conservative, religious right is subject to extreme criticism and loss of support for moral lapses of this nature. Vitter is likely finished in Republican politics. 2. Vitter did address the matter truthfully and with plain speaking. No excuses. No disappearing into "rehab" and blaming his affairs with young pages on alcohol, Like Foley did.
