That, or trade down for more picks and build up defense so they don't have to score 30 to have a chance to win a damn game.
I think it all goes together. If you have O-Line talent, you can actually possess the football for extended periods of time and keep your defense off of the field. Even #1 defenses get gassed if they are on the field 45 minutes a game. I would make the argument that Double D is at best a change of pace back and they or anyone else would be better off with Bush....but IMO it all starts up front. Whitworth??? I have no idea of the need positions or if anyone is salvageable off of the Texans oline but they currently ain't cuttin it.
If I'm Houston, I trade down to somewhere btwn 3-7. Get one of those picks along with a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Draft DaBrickashaw Ferguson (sp?) or McNeil and get some defensive help or a guard with the next pick. Reggie Bush would be nice, but he'd get killed running behind that line.
No way Bush will ever be an every down back in the NFL. He has never been hit and will learn quickly that it tends to hurt a little when your are no longer the best athlete on your team, much less your conference/division.
not to sound like a homer, but WTF? Anyone who gains over 1,00 yards in a season behind that line deserves a spot in the pro-bowl.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=4559 back to back 1,000 yard seasons, and on pace to finish with over 950 this year. *NOTE: he missed 2 games with injury, which would make up the 50 or so he may fall short for 3 straight. Welcome to my side homey:grin:
i bet he'll be moved to WR and even out of backfield on 3rd downs. also be invaluable returning kicks.
