If what you are contending here was the case...why did Stallings have the same type of contract offered? Why did we see NCAA schools all adopt this kind of contract in that era? Bama wasn't the first school to make this move restructuring contracts in this manner. It was one of the first of "our size" to do so. Curry, even knowing some schools were making moves of this type, didn't want to be under this type of contract. He received his guarantee from CM Newton but after Curry CM structured his contracts the same way. Spend a little time when it is afforded to you and look at the trends of contracts during the mid to late 80's. Within a 5-8 year span just about every major NCAA school moved in the same direction. It was the beginning of a lot of shifts not limited to college ball, but pro coaching contracts as well.
I wasn't there, in person, when all of this went down. However, I have personally spoken with people who were. There is one thing you have to take into account. As example, even though Birmingham is only an hours drive from Tuscaloosa they tend to be outsiders when it comes to news in Tuscaloosa. Writers, and only a limited number of them, are privy to happenings inside the Alabama community. The majority, speculate based on what others speculate. A prime example. Last year, writers in B-ham, ATL, Mobile, Huntsville, etc. were all writing that DJ Hall, Simeon Castille and Chris Keys were suspended due to grades. On the other hand, those in Tuscaloosa were reporting just the opposite saying only Simeon was a grade issue. Move a month after that barrage of articles and still you had writers saying it was grades. I just saw an article less than a month ago stating the same. Just like I reported on our site, and just like one of our friends (Cecil Hurt) reported in Tuscaloosa...what they were saying wasn't the truth. The idea (no pun intended) that we keep what goes on at Alabama inside of our family is something Bryant started years ago. He didn't give hardly a soul access to the program. I'd say, the closest one to that status was his former SID Kirk McNair who started Bama: The Magazine. (currently has the web site Bamamag) Curry had his time in the spotlight and said a lot that simply wasn't true. Fran did. Price did. DuBose did. Croom has. Perkins, is one of the few that hasn't had a lot to say publically, but still spends time behind the scenes. In every one of these cases, and I could go into specifics but this is an LSU forum, the University, it's SIDept., local print media writers, etc...we didn't make an all out effort to refute what was being said. That, is a sore spot with a lot of Alabama fans...but, never-the-less it's the truth. If you think about it...if one wanted to know what the thinking was with the GOB network Lee Roy would be a place to start. Billy Neighbors, another. The information I have posted here about them, comes from those two sources among others. But, enough of all of this...it matters little to me personally if you believe it or not. I've simply tried to share what happened in this situation from a perspective of witnesses, those that know.
That's true..especially when it comes to conversations in the off-season. A couple of weeks before we meet each other on the grid-iron, or the hardwood...those situations I'll take an exception. If you'll recall Red, before we played in football last year? You and I were saying practically the exact same thing. And, represented a very small group here that thought the game would be low scoring, decided by mistake free play by LSU and the Bama defense would shock everyone. ...not to mention most of the time I actually use the phrase "I think..." when it comes to situations I'm just speculating about. :yelwink2: :yelwink2:
You're a lucky guy, Terry. The last time I tried to pat myself on the back that hard, I twisted my damn elbow... had to drink left-handed for a week. :yelwink2:
You said none of the "outsource" money was gauranteed, which wasn't the case with Stallings and all of those other contracts. In other words, they would have had to pay him only a small amount when they fired him. He would have been a fool to sign it.
I never knew the Hawker had a "thing" about Bama. Go figure. I have a thing about Ooh La La, I suppose, . . . I never give them a break.
  Hey, I have 'nuttin' against Bama or their fans. They remind me of a very good friend I have who's a big Nebraska fan. I love hearing his stories about how great things were in the olden times.
I think that Bama didn't screw up. They made a good move by re-signing Shula. That defense was the best it had been in a long time. The offense struggled but played OK. I like a very competitive SEC, Vandy, MState, and Kentucky just need to get their football programs on the right track. Arkansas will be good once again, they have a very promising team. I am looking forward to a very exciting season. I am on that waiting list with the other season ticket hopefuls, and I am hoping to be able to attend some games this year. Being a football coach in Texas makes it very difficult to attend games. If anyone has any info on single game tickets and what the TAF funds will be, just PM me or post a reply. Thanks, and have a great day.:geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige LSU!  LSU! :helmet: :helmet: :helmet: :helmet: :helmet: :helmet:
Count me in the camp that absolutely L-O-V-E-S the contract extension for CMS! Especially since he has little to do (if anything) with the defense and everything to do with Bama's offense. Bama and Shula are owned.
