Agree, my complete and utter hatred for all things Auburn actually arose from personal encounters with some of their folk.:po:

Much like the reason I like hanging out here were the experiences (food and drink) when visiting your turf. I've seen some things that I didn't like...but, it never was directed at me.

I had a little run in with a few Aubies during the off season (somewhere around Feb-March) about 10 years ago in Opelika. My LSU hat triggered the "festivities". The bad thing is there was only 2 of us, and 7 of them, and we were on their turf. Needless to say, some less than classy things were done and said. Thankfully, it didn't resort to violence, because the cop that showed up was definitely on their side.

I believe the entire conference gets the $14M w/ the participating team getting a lager share, around the $4M. That's how they came up w/ the new numbers for ND starting this past season. They get paid out as though they were part of a conference, $1M even if they don't play, and $4M if they play.
Sorry, but that is why ND will probably never join a conference. It just doesn't make sense to do it.

Exactly. So the most ND can get is 4 M. If LSU and Florida make a BCS game then the SEC gets 28 M. 4M for Florida and LSU each plus they would get some from the other bowl appearances by the conference teams. So if your good enough sometimes it does pay to be in a conference.

Thats not how the BCS payouts work. The first team in the conference gets paid around 14 mil. Then second team gets 4 mil. So the SEC, because of the way it is structured, equal shares of bowl money to all SEC teams (including those that don't make a bowl),gets 18 mil just from the BCS. I don't know how the payouts go for other conferences. ND gets money whether or not they qualify for a BCS game. If they qualify, they get the same amount of money that a second team from a conference receives, thus the 4 mil.
Either way, it serves as a good incentive for ND to stay away from conferences, lucrative BCS contract with no sharing and a lucrative TV contract with no sharing. That is a lot of money!!!!

Maybe I'm misreading your post, so I appologize if I am, but it looks like you're confused some. The payout for the NC game was about 17M, of which FL got about 1.8M off the top. The rest went to the SEC for distribution. Since LSU was the second team from the SEC in a BCS game, the total payout to LSU & the SEC was 4M instead of the full 17M. LSU got about 1.8M off the top of that figure, and the rest went to the SEC for distribution. Different conferences distribute the total payouts differently w/ some splitting it evenly to all teams and some paying out in some type of tier system (I think the SEC divides it evenly). The total payout for the SEC this year was around $51M, w/ each team getting some of that money up front. The balance is then distributed.

ND gets $4.5M now (as opposed to the full $17m like last year) when they are selected, and 1-1.5M when they don't get selected. One thing that has always made me curious is what does the particular bowl do w/ the money not paid to ND. Looks like another reason ND will get picked, even when they don't deserve.

If you do a search on Google, there are a couple of good explanations. I hate to say it, but the best explanation of the system is from Auburn's AD.
I tried to post the link, but couldn't get it to paste.

NO you are in more detail correct. I was just making a point that the SEC doesn't get 28 mil for having two teams in the BCS. The second team grabs less money than the first and because Notre Dame gets money whether or not they play in one, they get the second team equivilant. As far as distribution. They may get the 1.8 mil off the top. But when it all adds up, the money is totally divided in equall amounts to the 12 schools of the SEC if my understanding is correctly. So its mainly for pride purposes which bowl you go to cause you are gonna get the same amount no matter what from what I gathered. I very well could be wrong though, feel free to correct me. I welcome the opportunity of being enlightened.
