The ESPN crew had to twist away their spin when they all jumped on the bandwagon saying that Miles wasn't as smart as the vest in Ohio. Just wait till they start to say that Miles can't get it done without Bo Pelini.
I think he can and probably will win one or more. I predict he will win his first this season. This is what I would have typed back when.
I don't feel at all bad for saying "I don't think he can do it" back in mid-May of 2007. Did whoever negged me (without manning up and posting their username) realize what had to happen for us to get to the game this year? I don't blame Les for our two losses, though... the defense played crappy in both of them.
Bingo! Miles gives the impression that its not about him, its about the players and the fans and the school. Saban and Meyer are the opposite. It's their own image that's first and foremost on their minds. A good example is the earlier post that mentioned Saban wanted UH off the schedule because their offense would require too much prep. Miles would say "Let's get it ON!"
Or, "Why not, any juggernaut'll do". :hihi: With "Today's athlete" I think it's even more important that they "Like" the coach. There's a fine line but coaches who can demand respect and still have a great relationship are the most successful ones. I see the same thing with leadership styles in the workplace- people just tell you to eff off and walk out these days, it's a different generation. The teachers will recognize what I'm speaking about too, the old ironazzes aren't as affective as the teacher who can demand respect but still have fun with their students. Those were the ones I liked the most and also learned the most with even back in my day. There was a time I was concerned that Miles may have been too "Friendly" and that it may have been a sympton of our high number of penalties but after seeing that the most successful teams of recent have a lot of penalties too- I'm not sure what to make of it but no longer think it's cause Miles isn't "Business" enough.
