Article about coaches not getting credit for winning because they do it with the previous coach's players. Except the article is about BC and Les Miles. Miles has been the one that has not been given credit by the media and even colleagues (Spurrier) because he is winning with Saban's players. At least he mentions Miles and is willing to give him credit. http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/10373710
I love this line. Of course, the Gumps are just going to say that he's such an awesome coach that he could win with the slouches that Shula left behind.
This is common sense to 99.999 percent of the people. However, you never hear them, you always got the pot stirrers that have to say ****...its equivalent to the corn dog name callers. And honestly, it wouldn't be that big of a deal if some people here had thicker skin and knew the ones trying to flame were doing it just for that reason.
im sure its not a popular opinion, but i think it depends how you define "winning". clm has won a lot of games but hasnt won any titles. his reputation would be better if he had a title even if he won less games. saban won titles with dinardo's and saban's talent. yes dinardo won with hallman's players, but he won twice the # of games. yes meyer won with zooks players, but he won the NC. zook didnt even win the SEC. if saban wins an SEC title in the next 3 years, yes it will be mostly with shula's players, but shula didnt win a title with his players. perhaps, hallman, zook and shula are better suited to being recruiting coordinators instead of HCs.
Very true, but it also has to do with how highly thought of the previous coach was. When the coach hired is a bigger name & more popular than the coach fired, you aren't near as likely to hear this "winning with the previous coaches' players" crap. But like with Miles, when the old coach was very popular & the new coach is a bit of a no-name, fans feel like the new coach has to prove himself. Every coach must win with the previous coach's players for the first few years. These players still have to be coached, but for about 2 years fans can't truly tell how well the current coach is recruiting & developing players.
