1. Maybe that's how he got to keep his job for longer than he should have - because of what he knew was going on there.
  2. This whole episode disgusts me, I used to have a lot of respect for Paterno; now I'd like to see him in jail too. There is no way he did not know what Sandusky was capable of and he is partly responsible for any acts committed after it first came to his attention.
  3. I am hearing this speculated more and more today...
  4. No, I don't think so, but now Bowden is the saint of saints in coaching compared to this.

And with all the stuff that LSU has gone thru this year, I can't wait to see how the commentators handle this 'situation' on air for the Nebraska v State Penn game.

PS At least this explains Matt Millen
  5. Agreed.

It wasn't covered up so that JoePa could surpass Bowden. Remember, it wasn't long ago when PSU was in the middle of a 4-year long losing streak that they initially had ASKED him to retire.

Now, forget the terrible news that are NOW at the surface, and think back a few seasons to when they asked JoePa to step down due to poor results: PSU couldn't fire the guy. At the time, he was a living legend; an icon.

But as much as the administration would have looked like A-holes for firing him back then, they look 100x WORSE for NOT firing him immediately right NOW.

Remember.....the administration knew too. If the board is going to start firing people immediately (and i'm not saying they shouldn't), they have to start with the University President, all the way down to the ball boys.
  7. Timeline on all of this:

The first occurrence happened in 1998.

Sandusky retired as DC of Penn State after the 1999 season.

    "The indident" happened in 2002.
  8. This had zero to do with it. Joe Pa was going to coach till he passes at any cost.

  9. This
  10. Joe Pa was being forced out in 2004 but he survived.

Penn State football wasn't the same back in 2002, it was waning for the past several years. It was a good team at best and a scandal like this would have gotten Joe Pa forced out for sure. Paterno survived the 2004 debacle as he wielded his power once more.
