Worse than I thought. Our best of the remaining bunch is likely our quarterback converted LB, Marcus Randall. Kuale would have made a bigger impact here if not a jc transfer and injury. Nothing like a homegrown kid beckwith anchoring the position 3-4 years. Always best to get the top local talent that bleeds the purple n gold. And count me as one who thinks Laron is having a good but not great season. Then again to name anyone to the all-america team you'd have to watch every player for every game at every position for it to be fair so it comes down to preseason hype like most every other award. but i think Id pick the dude griffin for ut if i had a vote. he blocks punts and returns them as well.
Lets break down a few of these names instead of just throwing them out there. Chad Lavalais & Randall Gay were true freshmen Saban' first season here. (I know Lavalais had commited a couple years earlier) Corey Webster & Lionel Turner meaning neither of them had played before Saban's 2nd season. Plus Webster was a wide-out. Damien James quit, during his first season,& Hookfin has been mentioned before for getting burned regularly. So to think Saban didn't have to get athletes here before making his defense work is ignorant. Think about it like this '03 was the height of Saban's D. Saban's 4th season. Meaning any senior had been here 4 years (never having played for another coach) and anyone younger than that obviously was brought in by Saban
During Saban's five seasons at LSU (2000-2004), he had 24 players that were selected in the NFL draft. Of these 24 players, 17 were already on the LSU roster before Saban ever coached a game as a Tiger (Seniors: T Brandon Winey, C Louis Williams, and TE Robert Royal; Juniors: QB Josh Booty, QB Rohan Davey, DE Jarvis Green, and DT Howard Green; Sophomores: RB Domanick Davis, WR Josh Reed, LB Bradie James, and CB Norman LeJeune; Freshman: RB LaBrandon Toefield, RB Devery Henderson, CB Corey Webster, LB Lionel Turner, DT Chad Lavalais, and P Donnie Jones.). In addition to the players that got drafted under Saban, Saban also had 10 other players who, although they weren't drafted, all ended up on the roster of an NFL team. All 10 of these players were already on the LSU roster before Saban ever coached a game as a Tiger (Seniors: RB Tommy Banks and CB Fred Booker; Big Saban fan here, and remarkable what he did for our program but I pulled this and posted it twice cause I get tired of hearing, "Miles is playing with Saban's recruits, I wonder.." and "Saban brought in ...." and he did bring a lot of talent but he didn't inherit a bare cupboard either. Same as Miles, who took over with more talent but has added equal in first recruiting class and looks like another good one on the way (Too early to know just how strong yet).
I posted this again because you obviously didn't read it the first time. Yes Saban did inherit some talent, I'll never deny that fact, but some people have obviously forgotten what kind of shape this program was in before Nick showed up.
And I said essentially the same: but I am not following you. I don't understand the relation between this: and this: Are some of those players mentioned his recruits? I wasn't sure when I read it but understood it to mean they were already recruited.
I'm not sure about some of those guys mentioned. For example, Corey Webster's name appears on the list, but he was playing in Saban's 5th season here. Now DiNardo was fired before his last season ended, so who recruited Webster? Did he commit that early? Lavalais did commit before Saban got here, but wasn't eligible until Saban arrived. I know that some of them were freshmen Saban's first season, what I don't remember is which ones were red-shirts carried over from the DiNardo era, and which were brought in by Saban.
Thanks, when I read it I questioned it but didn't check and I'm bad about remembering who won the superbowl, world series, the previous year. Pretty much always looking forward, not one of those who can spit out history. When I said I posted it twice, I meant in another thread, didn't mean for you. :thumb:
Never... I like to screw around with the newbs and flamers sometimes (Even though I'm new too) but I don't come here looking for confrontations. Most here know more about football and LSU than me anyway, I'd loose. Just a big LSU fan and enjoy the information I get here and like to have a little fun too.
Damn, I just realized you've only been here a couple of months. Seems like you been around longer than that.
