Maybe the play book had to be trimmed down. I would like to see Flynn with enough reps for him to get comfortable and see if he can direct the offense any better. I don't think RP solves any problems. I think he too would try to win the game all by himself at this stage in his career.
The only way anything was trimmed down was because Miles couldn't understand it..... Pelini's defense is "simplified" because our players understand too much (from Saban's defense) and Pelini doesn't.... Right now, the ONLY coaches worth a crap on that staff are: Bradley Peveto--his special teams are doing great. Karl Dunbar--not because he's a former Tiger, but our D-line is almost single-handedly shutting down the running game and clogging up the middle. They did a good job holding Riggs under 100 yards...and he's one of the SEC's best.
JR is a soph. Very few QBs are excellent field generals at this stage of their development. JR tries to make plays within the team concept and can be no better than the plays called for him. He has to be given the chance to make a play to perform. If the coaching staff does not exhibit confidence in JR the whole offense will by default become ineffective. The baby can't walk until you let him fall down.
I hate to flip-flop but I think we should red shirt Perrilloux this year. He's not ready for SEC defenses yet, and in a year we'll know much more about Russell's capabilities. We can work in Perrilloux next year if need be. Seeing what Russell can do this year through adversity is more important than seeing what RP can do right now. Over time I have no doubt Perrilloux will be a better QB, but I also feel that Russell deserves the chance to be the man this year. If he does well we know who the starter is next year, if not we'll see who earns it.
