It is very very incorrect, I have never been a Randall basher and have felt that neither was getting the job done. I'm all for putting the QB in that is doing the best job no matter who he is. That being said it makes sense to put the younger guy in if all else playing wise is equal. Randall played great last night while JR played like a confused freshman. Hopefully Randall will continue his recent success and we can find some stability at QB.
Look guys, neither of our QB's is a consistent SEC threat this year. Randall had a good game and I'm happy. Russell had a poor start. That's the result from the latest game. The situation has been reversed this year, like OSU in game 1. Lets remember Fla. allowed 30 against both Ten. and Arky, and 24 against us. They don't have the best defense out there. They really seemed to tire out in the second half. LSU showed signs of gelling, the O-line run blocking was good, and the backs ran well. Saban still has a tough choice on who to start. Randall with his inconsistency over the years is no sure choice to blosom based on this game. Russell will come back and improve. There just is no clear choice. Maybe Randall does do better coming off the bench. I have been a proponent of starting Russell, and I am not ready to change my mind. If one bad start was the criteria, Randall would not have started after OSU in game one. I would probably start Russell again.
That's exactly right. Matt Flynn will be named the starter from now on because JR and MR both play better coming off the bench. :thumb:
To be fair both QB's have come off the bench and performed great, so it seems like both QB's cannot handle the pressure of starting a big game on the road. I'm not saying that it is easy, but if your going to be a QB in the SEC you gotta get over it and deal with it. You all saw how good Eric Ainge performed as a TF in Athens. You gotta have poise which Randall obviously had. As far as who should be starting, I say stop pointing fingers and beating each other up over what they said in the past. Realize everybody, like NS, wants to give LSU the best combination of personnel to win. Everybody makes mistakes, and we are not privy to what goes on in practice. In closing, that's why we pay NS 2.something million dollars to make these decisions and fix it. I say just don't worry about it, he'll figure it out.
I don't suppose it occured to any of you folks that it may have nothing to do with the "bench"? He did well the first drive of the Auburn game. BEFORE he was benched. I know Saban said he does well off the bench and that might be where everyone is getting that. But he hasn't been awful starting either Except for the Oregon game. We may have won 28 - 7 if Randall started, consider that before we resign him to "relief" pitcher. :dis: I'm not critisizing Saban's call, Lord knows what goes in in a young Qb's brain, I'm just saying we DONT know for sure, he hasn't been left in AS A STARTER when he was doing well yet. Of course the same thing could be said of Jamarcus. who knows. Saban I hope.
Prior to the start of the season, two current players ate lunch with us at a local restaurant and claimed that Russell had all the talent in the world but refused to learn the play book. Their exact quote was that if he does not change his attitude he will never make it in the Saban’s system. It is clear to me that he still does not know the offense. Not knowing where your receivers are is not a game experience problem. I would love for Russell to play full time but he hurts us more than helps us. And if there is not an attitude change he will have the same problems next year. You can have a cannon for an arm, but if you have no idea where your 2nd or 3rd receiver is suppose to be you will struggle under pressure. Also in my opinion he could use a scope and a throttle on that cannon (which may be a game experience problem, but I doubt it). :usaflagwa :laflagwav :lsug:
The fact that Randall is the number one QB does not speak well of the job that Saban has done as a recruiter/head coach as it relates to the quarterback situation.
