One point of clarification/correction. Sears was arrested and charged the day of the game before Georgia (my mind isn't as sharp as it used to be.) He was suspended from the Georgia game, played against Alabama and then did not make the trip to the bowl game, although it was unclear if that was related to this situation. Tuberville suspended him again for an indefinite amount of time after the sentencing during the offseason.
yup, that's correct. Sear's DUI happened following the UK game the week before UGA. Officers at the scene failed to read Miranda rights to Sears, but in his hearing, Sears plead down. That's when CTT re-suspended him once the outcome was definitive.
If Auburn was struggling, The Tube might reinstate these guys. But with Auburn rolling, I think he takes the moral high ground. He has other players to impress that he intends to have discipline and will enforce his decisions.
I dont think any coach in his right mind would revoke a suspension of a player to play in the biggest game of the year. Not unless AU wants to become the new Thug-U. Thats just asking for trouble if CTT did something like that. Just my opinion though.
CTT is a lot of things, but shy and stupid he ain't. He's got the program among the elite right now, and he's got the backup talent to survive without those two. They'll be the example he uses for the mothers of the nation's top recruits.
How many recruits will think CTT is a bit overly harsh and look elsewhere? Auburn won't need the two of them this week anyway. Greg Smith might get to play in this game for a few plays. He got credit for causing a fumble in the MSU game even though he was still in Auburn. It has been said that Chuck Norris wears Greg Smith pajamas.
No, you misunderstand. You go up to the momma and say, I'ma keep your boy in line- look what I did to these two young men. We don't play at Auburn. We make sure that our players go to the next level and do so with the best of reputations. We don't put up with no nothing. And if that's what he says, the boy'll end up there more likely than not. He talks to the kid, lets him know that he's not under house arrest- he'll have plenty of time to get crunk and all that- but there are rules he'll follow if he wants to be successful. That way the kid knows that the coach isn't too harsh. This is, of course, all supposing I liked CTT. Which I don't. So I'm going to say that's what CLM does.
