I agree, Richard Murphy is the best back on the team in my opinion. He should be the starting back and Keiland Williams should be the return guy. IMO Coach Miles knows a lot more than me though. (I hope so anyway.)
Doucet fumbled a kick-off at the goal line last year at Florida. The reason Doucet is fielding punts and kick-offs is the same reason Miles has Flynn run 12 times on a designed run.......he does those things because they are the safe choice. Having Holliday back there isn't safe......having Doucet is. He'd rather take a chance with Flynn running 12 times on a designed run than Flynn throwing the ball 12 times over the middle of the field. Same reason Russell threw 22,000 bubble screens......safe!!!!!!
What I don't understand is why not give TH a shot last week on punts when we're up by 30 points. We certainly can't do it this week but last week would have been fine. Once again, I'm sure I know less than the coaches though and maybe we should just let them do the jobs they get paid millions to do.
Re: Doucet Well we'll never know unless they actually put some new kick returners back there. It worked out great with Craig Davis doing punt returns midseason last year. I'm not tryin to rag on Early but last year he averaged 16.8 yards per kickoff return which is not very good at all, including the muff that resulted in a safety. Trindon on the other hand averaged 32.4 yards per return on about half as many returns. I don't see Early as returning a kickoff all the way unless there is perfect blocking, but if there is perfect blocking I'm guessing it doesn't matter who is returning the kickoffs. Jared Mitchell or any of our young receivers would be guys that could be back there, and we have enough players as stated earlier at RB that could make people miss as well. It's not all about speed (unless you run a 10.02 100M :thumb: ), but more about making cutss and making people miss.
I heard Jai Eugene looked great in the off season returning punts. I wouldnt mind seeing his stuff. Also looking forward to seeing John Williams but I hope he gets a redshirt this season.
I am a believer putting the best players on the field and allowing them to use their athletic ability to best help the team. Could Doucet get hurt returning kicks, and Flynn hurt running the football? Yes Would those injuries hurt the team? Yes, devistatingly Can Doucet change a game returning kicks? Yes Can Flynn change games running the ball? Yes So my opinion is let them do their thing.
Remember last year? When Doucet was the third best receiver on the team? The only player on the team that scares me (in terms of injury) right now is Flynn, and if RP gets more snaps in the next few games (as Miles said he would recently) then even that fear will probably go byebye. Doucet is good, but LSU has lots of talent and Middle Tennessee might be a great game to break in a new receiver if we had to . Let them play ball (except for Flynn - protect him a bit for a game or two more, just for my sanity).
problem with TH, is that he's so fast...he runs into tackles. He needs to let a hole open, then burst. On his end around's, he's always passing up blockers, and running right into the arms of tacklers. Doucet can return punts very well, watch his highlights from HS. I expect him to break a few long ones.
