There's no easy answer. Seoul is a city of 20 million people right on the border in easy artillery range. Using nuclear weapons on the border would kill as many SKs as NKs. We have a division on the border also exposed. They're basically a trip wire similar to the brigades we had in Berlin during the cold was.
In addition to the threat to Seoul the fear of millions of NK refugees streaming south is real and possibly destabilizing.
Likewise the Chinese are terrified of millions of refugees streaming north into China. That would destabilize the regime. The Chinese have no love for Kim but are hamstrung.
These factors have allowed the Kims to thumb their nose at the world. Negotiations over the last 50+ years have been useless because the NKs understood their position. This has been true for 12 presidents.
With the development of NK nuclear and missle capability the room for maneuver is more restricted. If you notice the Chinese and Russians joined in voting for the latest round of sanctions. The Chinese also have moved army units to their NK border. The pressure is ratcheting up on Kim.
Perversely Trump saber rattling may actually help. It adds pressure to the Chinese to act before Trump does.
I don't see a good ending to this. Kim is backed into a corner. The only hope is a coup that decapitates Kim and allows a relaxation of tensions. To blame Trump alone as
@Rex does is to ignore facts and history.
