Truth is, by the time I got to SC, the lady's team had 3 Olympic Gold Medalists playing. I'm not even close to that caliber. There was no JV so I played the equivalent of club volleyball for SC. I owe my competitive nature to my dad. He played basketball for SC with Bob Boyd and Bill Sharman. And he played baseball (1st base) for Rod Dedeaux, the BEST coach ever......11 time NCAA Champions and most amazing human being.

Rod was born in NOLA. I meant it with nothing but respect. He's the best export Cali ever got. I knew Rod my entire life and never met a more dynamic coach or person. RIP and nothing but thanks to the state of LA for giving this Cali Girl the chance to know him. Just have to add one thing (edit here). Rod was known for many things but one in particular. He greeted everyone he ever met or knew by the same nickname. If you ever met him, played for him, or were his friend, he called everyone the same thing and you walked away feeling special. That name? Tiger. One last edit cause I can't help myself. Throughout his USC career, he accepted only a nominal salary of $1 per year, as his trucking business supplied a substantial income. He turned down numerous offers of major league coaching positions, including invitations from Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda to join his staff, always rejecting them due to his preference for the college game and his desire to remain close to his family.
