Sure, he'll do well but "total" control is what made him a failure in Miami. I enjoyed his time at LSU but there were two things that were always a little annoying...his ego and being a control freak. It's funny how he's been saying that he was staying at Miami and that the media should only be focussed on football. Then in his Alabama press conference he talks about this being his last job before retiring at his camp in Georgia. What does that have to do with football? It's just more smoke until Jimmy Sexton finds the next big gig. He has two major hurdles to overcome at Alabama. He'll have a more difficult time recruiting in Alabama (due to Auburn) and he'll have to keep an eye on the boosters that would do anything to win. Alabama can't afford to get caught cheating again. The 32 million was bad but the "guaranteed" portion is what will hurt college football.
Recruiting will be a nightmare for the next 3-4 years. I don't think that is a hurdle he can leap. Look for him to bail after 3. I agree with one point dragontiger...let's drop the Saban stuff PERIOD!!!
Yes, and lets all give him a big hug if we ever see him. Oh and be sure to tell him 'thanks for the memories'. Yeah!!!
You know, I think I would. Nick was good for LSU and LSU was good for Nick. Hell, I'd shake Dinardo's hand, too. After six straight losing seasons he took us to three straight bowl games and a 10-win season before he let Lou Tepper make the wheels fall off. So, . . . it took less than two years for Nick to realize that he never should have left LSU. Have you heard him talk in the last 28 hours? Lots more about missing college football and living in a college town where his family was happy engaging in with all the college activities. His heart was in college, don't you know, the place where he was his best and all the world adored him . . . college. Not as much about wanting to come to Alabama for the Alabama atmosphere and Alabama lifestyle. The place Nick longed for, where his reputation was made, where he was loved and admired, where his family was happy, where they built buildings for him, where his finest players were still winning, was L S . . . errr, college. If Terry is corrrect, and he's batting about .850, Nick let LSU know that he might be available earlier this season. Alas, LSU has a coach who is winning and recruiting very well and has no position for Nick. "You listened to Huizinga, boy, you fugged up!" Who can blame Nick for taking the next best position in the SEC? He didn't leave LSU for Bama. He left the Dolphins and LSU wasn't available. Nick is unlikely to get a second opportunity in a coaching career like he had at LSU, but if it's out there for him, Bama is a damn smart place to try for it. A coach coming back to your league is no big deal, it happens in the business all of the time, and this is definitely a business decision for Nick. Bryant coached at Kentucky and Bama. Curry at Bama and Kentucky. Spurrier, Tuberville, Gerry Dinardo and many coaches before them have coached at more than one SEC school. Sure, I'd wish Nick well. And remind him that LSU is going to need a new AD in a couple of years. A man like Nick in a position like that could hire himself and get away with it! AD and head coach . . . like Dietzel and Bryant. It's a control-freak head coach's wet dream.
1 Post and Leave Saban alone thread... Hmm do you smell "Bama Fan" alert. nice try... But he is right enough with Saban. I think the National Media is handling the Saban bashing just fine.
Sexton has damn sure made himself the best agent in the business. I wonder what his percentage is. Or how many clients he has. With Nick, Tuberville, and Jimbo alone he'd be rich beyond avarice. Jimmy, I retire from LSU in a few years and I'd like to go to work for you. I'll carry the cash and drive the girls.
