I invoked his name as an example of a successful program/coach that got full of itself and now find themselves trying to rebuild. College football is a tough place to stay on top for too long or to repeat as NC. I may not like Coker but his success at one point is hard to argue. Coker has led the Hurricanes to one national championship, two Bowl Championship Series title game appearances, three BCS bowl game appearances, five bowl games, three consecutive Big East Conference championships, and a remarkable 53-9 record in five seasons as the Hurricanes head coach.
That was a joke that someone made in a previous thread...that being from USC gets you an automatic 10 votes. I'm surprised you didn't catch it. Yeah, but large media markets are NO secret. Entities like ESPN, which broadcast to a national audience, focus very hard on their largest markets. That's why, if you only watch ESPN, you'd think that the only two major league baseball teams are the Yanks and Sox. Ummmm that's because the only Pac-10 team that had a shot got schooled by their crosstown rivals after they thought they already had their ticket to the BCSNCG punched.
I agree that ESPN does focus on large markets and that makes good business sense. Still, fans can have selective hearing. I visit boards from all the different conferences throughout the season and read the same thing on every board. Nobody likes us, nobody gives us credit, all the other conferences get the attention, blah, blah, blah. Fans are funny that way. Except irish fans. They honestly still believe they are America's team. :nope: The finalists I was referring to were for the Heisman, not the NC i.e. Smith from the Big 10, Run DMC from the SEC, and Lady the independent. 13-9 isn't getting schooled. 66-19 is.
